chrome plating removal

so i have an '09 journey sxt awd and it has the fake chrome on the grill which is starting to bubble.is there a way to remove this "chrome" without ruining the plastic underneath. i want to paint it but i dont want to paint it with the bubbles. and i think if i pop the bubbles and peel them off it will leave a divot. TIA

You could try a hair dryer. But as J said, just wet sand it with some 400 grit and paint over it. Adhesion Promoter comes in a can and it really helps when painting plastic. I did the grill on my Chevy truck about 3 yrs ago and it still looks great. Or you can always Plasti Dip it if you don't want to use paint. If you don't like it just peel it off!!
