henry1088
I'm having the problem that everyone else is with the horrendous sound when I start the car on real cold days that lasts 30 or so seconds (it hasn't been over 20F in a week) Today I noticed that sound when the car was up to temp and I was making a turn. My best guess is the pump going bad but is there anything I could be looking for, like a hose or god forbid the rack going bad? I also read somewhere that the reservoir has a filter in it that I can change, is that true? 2011 Mainstreet AWD with 3.
2late4u
no filter that i know of, best guess the cold is putting a strain on your pump or maybee a little low on fuild. no problems with mine it was a little low on fuild i filled it up to just below the full mark but we dont get the cold that you all get up north . good luck
Addicted to Dodge
I would definitely check your fluid level. I don't know of any filter either. You could try to siphon the PS fluid out of your reservoir, and try filling it up with a synthetic PS fluid or ATF4. If its pink then you have ATF4, if its a clear amberish color then you have PS fluid. Make sure to stick with what you have in the reservoir, don't mix them. henry1088
The fluid is filled right to the top line. When I changed the oil about a month ago it was a little low so I topped it off with ATF-4 as per the manual. I had some left over from doing work on the Ram. So with that being said...its not low on fluid so the pump must be on its way out. I'm wondering if all the cold starts screwed the pump. bigtsr
I haven't experienced this as of yet but could it be as simple as making sure the wheels are not turned hard left/right on start-up in very cold temperatures. Mine is usually parked in the garage with the wheels facing straight ahead.
