Melissa Jones
Tonight my 2013 Dodge Journey is locking itself. No matter what I do. Meaning I can unlock it with the key fob and all of a sudden it will lock. Normally if your keys are in the car and you push the button on the outside door handle the door will not lock, but will if you push the lock inside the door. If I forgot my keys in the car and walk away my Journey locks itself. Not once but continously. It will not stay unlocked at all, you will hear.... The sound of the lock mechanism will constantly lock even though the journey is already locked? Electrical problem? Advice? Happens to anyone else? Thanks so much for any feedback.Melissa
Journey_SeXT
Take it to the dealer and have it repaired under warranty.
bigtsr
Yes 2013 should still be under warranty.
Journeyman425
Check both inside front door lock butttons and make sure nothing has spilled on them or otherwise causing them to become stuck down. Operate both the door lock buttons on the front doors a couple of times and see if they work normally. Do you have any kind of aftermarket (non-factory) alarm or remote start added to the car? If not and If the problem persists, definitely contact your dealer for a warranty repair for this problem. If there is an aftermarket remote/alarm, try putting it into what is called the "valet mode" which bypasses that system and see if that changes anything. Timon
Actually I wish that was an option so if there was no key fob in range it would auto lock after a user defined period, say 5 or 10 minutes.

Melissa Take it to the dealer and have it repaired under warranty. Melissa Jones, I agree with Journey_SeXT. Based on the symptoms you've described, it may be an electrical issue in which case you're best to leave it to the experts at your Servicing Dodge Facility. Please keep us posted after having the repairs completed. By the way...WELCOME TO THE FORUM !!!!
jkeaton
i dont often say "take it to the dealer" but obviously you have some electrical gremlin that is not going to be easy to diagnose via internet forum. I concur with the decision to take it to the dealer. They are equipped to deal with issues such as these, unless you are willing to start removing door panels and get into the inner workings/wiring of the switches. redtomatoman
Not sure why no one has mentioned this previously: you should take it to the dealer service center. They will likely be able to fix this issue. They work on Dodges. Peace. jkeaton

Milous
Symptom/Vehicle Issue: Intermittent Passive Entry Or Keyless Go Operation Discussion: Intermittent passive entry or Keyless Go Button Operation Cell Phones, Speed Passes, Phone Chargers, GPSs, Electronic devices and or large bundle of Keys when placed in close proximity of the Key FOB (ie, in a purse, bag or pocket) can result in intermittent FOB operation; resulting in vehicle not unlocking/locking and or starting. Prior to replacing the Keyless FOB, test in a clear non-restricted manner without any suspect interference.

Prior to replacing the Keyless FOB, test in a clear non-restricted manner without any suspect interference. I usually throw my keys and cell phone in a mesh side pocket on my laptop back pack when heading to work. On occasion I have noticed if my phone completely covers the fob that it will interfere with it being seen by the vehicle... sounds like this post is about the car locking itself without any interaction with the fob or any buttons though. Not sure that is the answer for this one.

nash211
I have 2014 Dodge journey and this same thing just happened to me, the doors just keep locking themselves. they stop when the dash lights go out. But while driving the doors lock and unlock, non stop. The tech said there is a setting on the dash where you can shut off the rolling door locks, no such thing. nash211
Fixed, removed the ground cable let it sit for about half hour, lubricated all the buttons for door locks including the outside door handles, works perfectly. jkeaton and Journey_SeXT
