Avistow
I've got the full sized touch screen with GPS in my 2013 Journey SXT... A couple weekends ago I went to my friend's place, as usual it knew where I was going and provided me with an estimated time of arrival... During the weekend I went to go for a drive, I noticed that my location icon changed back to the default blue pointer, when I went into my favorites they were all gone!?! I never had an interruption in power... Has anyone else experienced this issue? dhh3

I can confirm however that there have been a number of flash enhancements released for similar conditions. May be best to check with your Dodge dealer on your next service visit to see if any of these enhancements are outstanding. dhh3

larryl
Mine is showing "cant unlock maps" and the loss of everything happened a few weeks before this message showed up Taking mine in on Monday for a so called "fix" dhh3
Avistow
Well I took mine in for service last week, had its first service done and had them check the GPS... Of course they just took it for a drive around the block and it worked fine... Well yeah, it has 6000 km on it and only had the issue once... Do they think driving around the block will cause the issue to replicate? Ugh... Apparently there's no update / upgrade at this time...? I also noticed that sometimes the traffic information doesn't work, and I haven't left the Toronto area since I got the vehicle... It worked fine for the first while, then stopped working, then it had that big reset hissy fit, now it works again. dhh3
Joe V
I have a 2015 Dodge Journey Crossroad with the 8.4" Garmin Navigation system. I've had it about 1 year. In May, 2016 I noticed the following message on my display when I hit the Nav button. "Can't unlock Maps" , I hit the OK button and then received the following message "Detailed maps are required for routing. No detailed maps were found on this unit". I called my dealer and made an appointment, They looked at it for a second and said, the radio had to be replaced. 3 weeks later I got a new radio in time for my cross country trip in July. It worked perfectly until last weekend when the same messages appeared. I called and told the dealer the messages had reappeared and offered to send them pictures. They asked how many miles were on the car, I told them it made no difference as I purchased the extended warranty when the dealer manager told me when I was completing the purchase that to replace the navigation system would cost $3,400. I then purchased the extended warranty. The dealer rep told me that the extended warranty did not cover the radio/navigation system. It told her what I was told by the dealer's manager. They then told me to come in and that they had to visually see the radio before they could replace the radio. I will be bringing it in on August 22, 2016. I fully expect to have this happen again, 2 times in 3 months? That points to a problem with their system but curiously enough repeated searches through Google did not reveal a known problem, only an occasional issue. Can anyone share a similar concern past the first replacement of their radio? Thanks. dhh3

On the other hand, it doesn't cost $3,400 to fix the GPS and it doesn't need to be replaced, that is simply Chrysler policy. The problem would seem to be that there are certain radios that are susceptible to memory corruption. When they swap out your radio they will install a 'refurbished' one. It is most likely to be one of those with the issue, since that's how they get them to refurbish in the first place and all they do is reload the unit with software and maps and ship them back out, never addressing the underlying issue.. Beyond this, there is a recall (R65, for reference) that applies to your vehicle, whether you have an extended warranty or not - it would seem to have been applied in June . . . but clearly was not 'successful'. All repairs, whether recall or not are guaranteed in any case. Your dealer's an idiot. aukfan33 and dhh3

Joe V
Just as an update, I downloaded 2 Uconnect Updates that were available for my DJ after I input my VIN. I have them on a memory stick and will upload the updates to my radio/Nav system this weekend. I will eventually be getting a new unit after I bring it to the service people on Monday. dhh3

Joe V
I found this out when it updated the radio not the GPS. I have to get a new radio, went yesterday to show them the error message. I called Garmin today to see if they have a fix and although they admitted hearing about this issue there is no fix other than replace. I found the extended warranty and of course after being told by the sales manager about the cost of the radio and the need for an extended warranty, I read nowhere are electronics covered. 15K before 1st failure and another 9 K for the second. R65 was for the radio apparently and not the fix to the GPS. I have a site that I can apply for a reimbursement for issues like this and if I find out that they will not replace the radio at some point, I will have to use this site. I tried to copy the site here but it would not work. moparownerconnect.com is the URL. Thanks again dhh3

Beyond this, Garmin is wrong (then again their telephone agents are usually wrong even about products that they manufacture, let alone ones manufactured by Panasonic). Your dealer is an idiot and the OEM bumper to bumper extended warranties absolutely DO cover the electronics. R65 was ONLY about the GPS, which is why it only applies to vehicles equipped with the GPS package. Of course it doesn't solve the problem, since we've had reports here of units that were 'recalled' (all they do is update the two firmware packages for the radio and navigator to the current 15.09.D1 and CTP16 respectively) including your own getting the 'can't unlock maps' message again. If FCA is prone to reimbursing people after their warranties expire then I suspect that the owner information web site won't be where you go to ask for it. I do wish you luck, however. THAT's interesting. Canadian units supposedly don't get traffic, according to Sirius, no matter what the manual may say about five years' traffic service included, because Sirius doesn't offer traffic in Canada except on a test basis with Ford and Mercedes. Having said that the traffic coverage is much more complete than Garmin's FM service, I must say. Canadian Journey's do not get Traffic from Sirius Canada. Other "higher end" Canadian Dodge/Chrysler/Jeep models does get Traffic from Sirius Canada, and usually only has one year free trial. 5 year free trials are available for our neighbors in the states.   On 6/2/2014 at 7:03 PM, Avistow said: ...I also noticed that sometimes the traffic information doesn't work, and I haven't left the Toronto area since I got the vehicle... You DO need a United States address to subscribe, however you can pay your US subscription with your Canadian credit card. You also can just have the Traffic service without the Satellite Radio (the quality sucks anyways).
bramfrank
I know you can do that, but Americans get their traffic for free for five years and they have access to Travelink while we don't, which kind of sucks, is all . . . . cody168

Joe V
Just received my 3rd new radio since I had my Journey. Maps now work again (for how long???). I noticed on my drive home from the service center that the manual buttons that turn on the AC unit and read window defogger no longer worked. They worked on the display touch screen but not as manual buttons. In addition the temperature up and down were also screwed up, one would only raise the temperature and the other would only lower the temperature. This had not happened after the first or second replacement radio and I was curious if anyone else experienced this. I now have another appointment (my 7th I believe) to have this looked at on September 12. Truly becoming one big pain as I have to schedule these after work. Edited September 7, 2016 by Joe V Cannot spell apparently. 2late4u
well that doesn't mean they knocked a wire loose for the buttons. Saying that ,on my 2014 i had the rear camera added and they had to get to the radio for the install they said David your car is ready so i jump in and get about 5 miles down the road and went to use the air conditioning and some of the buttons didnt work so back i go to the dealer and they take it right in and then said well its fixed now, some connections had came loose.... matter all fixed.... so take it back!!!!! bramfrank
Love that term "some connections had came loose". They're all on a single IDC connector. They simply didn't press it firmly into place when they re-installed the lower stack - very simple to fix yourself if you were mechanically inclined and didn't feel like wasting a half day. bramfrank
My point was that it is a 2 minute fix from start to finish and doing it at home if you have the skill set will save however many miles of driving and hours of your time.
