RaptorsFan
A simple google search would have provided your answer. From http://www.chryslercommercialvehicles.com/dodge/download/pdf/manuals/2012-Journey-OM-3rd.pdf Transmitter Battery Replacement The recommended replacement battery is one CR2032 battery. NOTE: • Perchlorate Material — special handling may apply. See www.dtsc.ca.gov/hazardouswaste/perchlorate • Do not touch the battery terminals that are on the back housing or the printed circuit board. 1. Remove the emergency key by sliding the mechanical latch on the back of the RKE transmitter sideways with your thumb and then pull the key out with your other hand. 2. Insert the tip of the emergency key or a #2 flat blade screwdriver into the slot and gently pry the two halves of the RKE transmitter apart. Make sure not to damage the seal during removal. 3. Remove the battery by turning the back cover over (battery facing downward) and tapping it lightly on a solid surface such as a table or similar, then replace the battery. When replacing the battery, match the + sign on the battery to the + sign on the inside of the battery clip, located on the back cover. Avoid touching the new battery with your fingers. Skin oils may cause battery deterioration. If you touch a battery, clean it with rubbing alcohol. 4. To assemble the RKE transmitter case, snap the two halves together. bigtsr
OP doesn't indicate model year - my original fob battery only lasted 2 yrs and I have better things to play with than fob. jkeaton
Jay Sixspeedrt
Ironic - I just changed battery tonight - both my fobs were showing "Battery low" in the EVIC. 2 years, 9 months. Anyways, battery change was easy-peasy. Just make sure you wear some gloves putting the new battery in to keep the skin oil off.
Lobitz68
OP doesn't indicate model year - my original fob battery only lasted 2 yrs and I have better things to play with than fob. The title of the post is "2012 Dodge Journey...Key Fob". Seems to indicate that this is a 2012, no? I have had my DJ since last March and I think I may have used the fob a total of like 4 times... In 2 years I figure that means I will have pushed the button a whopping 24 times. I hope the battery isn't dead from that much use. Jay Sixspeedrt
I've had the key fob for my Challenger R/T for over 4 1/2 years, and the batteries are still fine. I think the Journey's fob battery wears out more quickly as it emits the proximity radio signal so that the doors open on touch.

Owner's manual says a minimum of 3 years is the life expectancy of the battery... Hoping since I hardly use mine that it goes a bit longer than that... Good point though for sure. Monica L. Howard
I purchased a used Dodge Journey SXT a couple months ago and both key fobs were low. Now one doesn't work at all. So I assuming according to the information mention earlier, there is a battery inside with the key. I would love to purchase the battery beforehand....What the size of the battery needed? Edited October 25, 2014 by Monica L. Howard
