jeffhoward001
Did quite a bit of searching, and couldn't find anything on software upgrades for the 8.4 (not nav version). When I installed the UConnect software on my phone, it said there, "...there may be a software upgrade for your car's UConnect system and enables additional functionality..." So I went online and entered by VIN, however their website is wrong. It correctly lists my car as a 2012 Dodge Journey AWD Crew, however it thinks my car should have a 4.3S and not the 8.4. Which doesn't make any sense is that the 2012 Crew trim came standard with 8.4 UConnect, so something is screwy with their VIN look-up. Long story short, all I really want is the ability to control Pandora from the touch-screen on my Journey, is that too much to ask for 8.4 on a 2012? I saw some info on another Dodge forum with how to manually upgrade, but wanted to check on a Journey-specific forum first. If I understand the technology correctly, it's pretty cool. The update add an "app" section where you can launch Pandora from your 8.4 and see all your stations and such right on the touchscreen. I guess the easiest way to answer the question would be from an existing 2012 Journey owner with 8.4. Have you been able to get the UConnect mobile features working? Thanks guys, - Jeff
RaptorsFan
I have a 2012 crew with 8.4 non nav unit (only had the car for a couple weeks now). After typing in my VIN at https://rsur.extra.chrysler.com/rsur/Uconnect.do it shows that my unit qualifies for a software update and the release date was yesterday - 09/15/2014. No changelog to say what the update contains, will likely do mine this evening or later this week but may be worth checking out to see if it brings the functionality you are looking for. jeffhoward001
Thanks RaptorsFan, quick question though - How do you plan on doing the update? Are you taking it into the dealer, or attempting it yourself?
RaptorsFan
I will be attempting this myself. On the site I linked above there is a tutorial which seems pretty straight forward (tried putting the tutorial in this post but it contained too many pictures so I did not bother). In essence, you need to get the update file on a USB drive (minimum 4GB, formatted to FAT32) put it in the USB port in the vehicle and then follow the on screen instructions. RaptorsFan, Great suggestion! Any Dodge dealer can do this as well however the option of doing it yourself helps save time with dealer visits etc. and may also be resolution jeffhoward001 is looking for. RaptorsFan
Did the update last night, took about 10 minutes. Did not notice any difference or changes thus far.
jeffhoward001
Fair enough, so it sounds like the 2012 RE2 will never have the Pandora uConnect integration It's Ok though, bluetooth still works great
RaptorsFan
Fair enough, so it sounds like the 2012 RE2 will never have the Pandora uConnect integration It's Ok though, bluetooth still works great That may not necessarily be the case as I notice you are in the US where you can legitimately access Pandora and the Uconnect app. I'm in Canada and up here we don't have Pandoral (without some kind of workaround which I use on my phone) or the Uconnect app at all so these two things in particular would not be available to us Canadians anyway. It won't take you much time to do the update and may be worth a shot. You never know and worst case is you won't have it just like you don't now. Some updates are designed to be make the Uconnect system run smoother and not necessarily add features.

Some updates are designed to be make the Uconnect system run smoother and not necessarily add features. It was the update showing for my vehicle after typing in the VIN # at https://rsur.extra.chrysler.com/rsur/Uconnect.do From that site, the update title was UCONNECT®8.4_MY12_CTP_RADIO__13_48_46__RE2_RE3_RE6_RB4_RB5_RB6 After downloading, the compressed file was titled 14_48_46_MY12_CTP_RADIO_RE2_RE3_RE6_RB4_RB5_RB6 File name after extraction was CTPMY12.KWI - this is what I put on the USB drive. rednelb
I am really curious as to what the update entail. Additionally I have the NAV update and wonder if that is a map update or not? I would love to not have to pay for a map update!

redtomatoman
Hi all- I can probably do this myself, but is there a charge for this update if I roll it in with an oil change at the dealership? Maybe this will finally get rid of my iPod skips. Seems like I may be the only one or one of the few who experience these. I plan to get the service manager involved in my skips issue if this does not fix the problem. Peace.

redtomatoman
Installed the uconnect update today. Didn't rid my system of the skips/intermittent dropouts. Oh well. Decided to call the uconnect customer service line. They were only limited help. Said that the iPod classic has not been tested with uconnect. WTF? Also said that the presence of m4a files on my iPod may be causing incompatibility issues. What? IDK. Told me to load a USB stick with only mp3 files to see if uconnect still skips. Maybe I'll try this. I think I've lost my interest in pursuing updates or new hardware from the dealer. Peace.

Hi redtomatoman As you know from reading my posts, I have gone through a lot of radio/nav problems. One of them being that when I request a song, the song is highlighted then skips to the next song, without playing the requested song. It was fixed on the original radio, but after having it replaced because of a navigation problem, the skipping has been an issue on every unit since. Since there is an update available and I have an oil change scheduled for next month, I will ask them to do the update.

chrisinshanghai
When I checked my VIN in October it told me that 4 updates were available for my JCUV. Now the dealer and site say no updates are available, but also the dealer says my system has not been updated. Question how do I get the latest updates for my dodge in China. I'm using a neutered 8.4N the neutering seems to be in the nav options and I'm thinking it is software related so can an update unlock the neutered features? What I did to update my 2015, is I used a vin from a 2014 that had the same radio. My suggestion is to find an identical year Journey from the US and download that update.
