Mikes14sxt
i was looking into getting head rest monitors for my kids on my 2014, on my window sticker it say adjustable headrest restrains does that mean they have the air bags inside headrest and i cant remove them? bigtsr
They are integrated with the airbag system electrically. They only actuate when/if you are rear ended having said that people have replaced them in the past but you may have electrical problems/signage indicating problems. Much easier to buy a capable tablet and fix it to the seat with Velcro. jkeaton and sprasad7
redtomatoman
No airbags but the headrests do deploy forward in a crash. Unless you know exactly what you are doing, I don't recommend removing headrests. Peace. jkeaton
Lobitz68
removal isn't difficult, but I would look at other options like a tablet. They make very stylish accessories to mount them nowadays... You could also look at an overhead unit, but that comes with it's own unique difficulties... compco
onecrazyfoo4u
I got a two monitor DVD player for about $70 over black friday last year. They are about 1/2" in depth. They just use velcro straps to wrap around the headrest. Work out great! And cheaper than tablet's. PapaG
PapaG
Used them on our previous Equinox and just moved them to the DJ no problems. They do use a strap that goes around the bottom of the HR.
sprasad7
Hi, I just bought two headrests with built in DVD players for Journey RT, and the local mechanic advised that the existing headrests can't be removed. After seeing the comments in this forum I realize its not a simple procedure. Is there a way out to fix these or it is almost impossible ? Lobitz68
They can be removed, but you will probably have a code... It is part of the SRS system and the active headrests are wired into the vehicle diagnostics systems... Of course, this is model year dependent as I believe the older models did not have active headrests. What year is your R/T? jkeaton
jkeaton
^^ This. It's your car, if you want ot bypass safety systems, that is up to you. I imagine there might be warranty issues though, if you have a newer model still under warranty and possible insurance issues. Hopefully you have an earlier model without the active headrests, otherwise, I'd return what you bought and get the kind that strap on as suggested above.
