onecrazyfoo4u
Do you guys leave your light switch on auto? Cause if so they come on for a few seconds every time you lock/unlock the doors. And they flicker off for a split second when you start the car. And they turn on/off a lot when going through tunnels or dark places. I'm wondering if this will decrease the life or damage the bulbs or ballasts? Thanks! OhareFred
I've had mine on auto since I put them in, 2-3 years ago. Haven't touched them since I put them in.
dhh3
Can one of you post a picture of your HIDs? Thank you.
onecrazyfoo4u
I was just wondering cause when I hit start the other day the lights flickered like usual...then one of them didn't come back on. I had to turn them off manually then back on for it to work. Has worked fine since then. What could've caused that?
bigtsr
A spike in the current sensed by the TIPM is a probable cause.
onecrazyfoo4u
So is it a bad thing or harmful to the HIDs in any way? Anything I need to fix or adjust?
bigtsr
I honestly don't know but that's what the TIPM does relative to current monitoring.
Lobitz68
The short answer, is yes, this will shorten the life of your HIDs... Will the amount of time it shaves off of their life be noticeable?? Hard to say. I don't have auto lights, but if I did I wouldn't leave them on as this is a pretty standard issue for HID lights (the one not coming back on as you described). I have seen this pretty consistently on auto-on lamps on all different makes and models. Also, your specific HID set may play a role in this. Do you use a switched harness to power your HIDs? You can get add-ons from several manufacturers that are supposed to help with this issue, but I can't speak to their effectiveness. Good luck and report back with results.
