Hello everyone, yesterday while i was in the garage cleaning my DW Blue SXT journey, my son accidentally push the remote for the garage door and started to close. unfortunately the door in the back was open and was hit by the garage door. it got a 1/4 inch in diameter scratch just below the plate. Should i bring it to the dealer and have it repainted or is it okay to just use a touch up paint for it. Anyone knows how much is it to have it repainted? BTW im from New York.

Now you don't have a location to where you are in your profile. But I know that you US guys sometimes doesn't have the same level of insurance coverage that we have here in sweden. If this had happened to me I think that I could get the back door repainted - covered by my home insurance accident coverage (or what it now can be called in english). And this to a fixed sum.

If you have a home insurance - check with the insurance company if it could be covered.

Is the paint completely gone?

If it's only scratched and the metall isn't visible it maybe could be possible to wet-sand the area and only apply clear coat?

I would take it to a bodyshop first before trying the touch up paint. They might be able to buff out the scratch and would look good as new. My expierence with touch up paint is you can tell it has been done. I have not tried this method yet for touch up paint. It sounds like it would work the best.

1. First clean area. No brainer there.

2. Apply touch up paint as directed on instructions.

3. Let it start to set up. Maybe 15-30 minutes.

4. Use a clean rag(my preference Micro fiber) put some paint thinner on it and wipe off the excess paint.

5. Repeat above steps until you have the paint built up enough and is level with the original paint.

What it is supposed to do is avoid having that bump of paint left on your car. When you wipe off the first coat you will probably still be able to see the primer. After a few applications it will get better.

Another method my body shop told me to do was to apply the touch up paint and build it up a little higher than the factory paint. You will have a little bump. Then take it to the body shop and they can polish down the excess paint and should look good. I did this method and the results were not what I was hoping for. The problem with this approach is the clear coat on my truck was super thin. As soon as they tried to polish out the bump it burned through the clear coat.

The factory clear coat is usually pretty thin compared to what a body shop would apply. They ended up respraying the front fender with some left over paint they had after they painted my front bumper. Just another option to think about.

These are just my suggestions. Do what you want with them. Good luck on the repair.

yesterday we went to a clinic a woman reversed her car only looking at the back when she turned her wheel she hit my front right bumer. the damage is not notisable though but because my journey is only over a month onld I want it to be scratch free. dodge quoted it for 900 and earl scheim qouted for 600. I call the wonman and told her the cost value and she replied thats redicolous she will only pay 100bucks or she will let the bumper shop fix it in ther house together with her car but I have to wait for a week. The damage can be fix with the touch up paint. should I accept her 100 bucks offer or I will ask for more?thanks
