dhh3
While I was wandering around Best Buy yesterday, while my Alpine Tweeters were being installed, I came across this. It is referred to as a "Brick" amp because of its' shape. Alpine calls it a Head Unit Power Pack.It is a 4 channel, 45w RMS/channel. It's power is 15a, just like my Kicker sub; so there is no need to run any wires to the battery. I had no intentions of doing an amp; when I saw this @ $128.99 I figured why not. Now, I am truly finished with the sound in my DJ. Whew. As I have posted before, the old MyGigs were rated @ 66w, or 16.5w/channel. I have the non-nav 8" screen radio, The radio HU actually looks like a MyGig without the screen - just the CD and SD slots. Adding this amp - speaker level inputs only - will give me a total of 61.5w/channel (right?). All of the Alpine speakers that I have purchased are 4 ohm, 150w RMS, 200w Max. So, I am way under. Right now, I can run the volume @ 20, and it is on the verge of being too loud; but, it does sound good! I can turn it up all the way with no clipping or distortion. The underseat Kicker sub is awesome for its' size; with the remote gain, I can not go past 1/2 or it hurts my ears. Awesome for what it is. And, the best part is that all of it fits in my 3-row DJ! I still have never heard the optional sound system in a DJ. I'd like to compare sometime. Edited March 20, 2015 by dhh3
onecrazyfoo4u
Nice, you keep saying you are done with the audio system though ! There will always be something new to add! I haven't touched the audio in this vehicle since my wife drives it primarily. But in my daily commuter I've had a 13" sub and 1200 watt rms mono amp to match, along with 0 gauge wiring throughout. The subwoofer and box alone weigh 110 lbs! I like to pound hard occasionally . I've always had a huge 1000+ watt system since my high school days...first MTX brand, then JL Audio, and now Elemental Designs (an independant company that produced killer products to compete with JL Audio top of the line; but they went bankrupt unfortunetely). My system is not for the week of heart. People have said it sounds like hurricane Katrina in the trunk, lol. dhh3
dhh3
I had a similar type of system (all Kicker) in my Nitro, but there is really no room in my 3 row DJ to do something. Having a big box sub on one of the third row seats would not work for me. The nitro had a flippable cargo floor, and there was room enough under this for the 2 Kicker amps. I have to say, in all aspects, what I have now actually sounds better than my Nitro which was a lot more $. I guess nothing is never enough! My dealer had the left rear panel off and had taken out my left side third row seat in order to install my back up camera. I believe that the factory sub is behind this panel, but there didn't seem to be a whole lot of room. I know what you are saying when like to pound it hard when, for me, a particular song comes on. I still want to hear what the factory upgrade system sounds like. Maybe my dealer will let me try one, if there is a DJ in stock with it installed. Lobitz68
Did you get it installed yet? Saw those at Crutchfield when I was buying my upgrades this weekend...
dhh3
Sorry. Installation date is Thursday, April 16. I'm going into the hospital Thursday for my 2nd Back bone graft fusion. No driving for 2 weeks! This will be my fourth fusion - 2 in my neck. In the picture, you can see the bolts and rods. After the ruptured disc is removed, and the bone graft is installed between the vertebra, two bolts will be installed in to the adjacent vertebra, the short rods will be removed and two longer rods installed to tie them all together. Wish me luck. I'll probably be in the Hospital 4 or 5 days. The main concern will get me up and walking. This one will cause me to lose some mobility. I would struggle with this; I like to be active and it seems like that might prevent it some... Let us know how it goes! I'm curious if the install will require resistors to put a simulated load on the stock wiring. Can you ask them if they needed to install any when you pick it up? dhh3
Installed today! WOW It does sound good. No resisters needed. Wiring became a little difficult because of the Kicker Sub. Both of these are speaker level inputs only. The tech had to add some speaker wire as the inputs for the Kicker have to be between the radio and the AMP. And, he did run a wire to the battery positive post. Still curious as to how the sound compares to the upgrade sound system. The Tech just worked on one. He told me that the factory amp will only go to a certain level, then cut off, so nothing can be damaged. The sub is just a 1 way paper 6x9. The owner wanted more bass. Don't we all. The tech said that what I have done is heads above what the factory offers in the premium sound package; but, that is his opinion. I would still like to compare it for myself. I am done! Finished! Complete. It is finished. The only thing that I could do now is have the capability to watch a movie while I'm driving.

I hope the surgery brought you some relief and you benefit greatly from it. My sister has been through several back operations as well. She's lost some mobility as well, but at least her pain seems to be under control.
dhh3
The one I had done is the bottom disc. It is now fused to the one above it. Doctor said I would loose some mobility, but the healing on this one is going much slower than the one I had two years ago.
