Normagal
I'm wondering if anyone here has a phone that works properly in their Journey. We have a 2014, with the 8.4 screen, no navigation. Maybe our expectations are too high, I don't know, but it's frustrating. I saw another poster state that they use navigation on their phone, and the directions will come over the car's audio. Mine will not do that. The audio won't come over the phone or the car. Many times after over been in the car I look at my phone and see I've missed a call. The phone is still connected to the car,and no sound is on my phone. I have to go in and disconnect it from the Uconnect to hear calls or texts. On occasion I've tried sending a simple text in the car by talking to Siri via the car's audio. Sometimes it works, sometimes not. I also have calls drop on occcasion in the car. Hubby had it happen the other day. He feels strongly it's the fault of the Uconnect, not the phone. He took the phone off Bluetooth and didn't lose the call again. All the time he had a good signal on the phone. Would any of this work better if I had the phone plugged in to the USB port when in the car? Thanks in advance for any input on this. The dealer has been of little help.
bramfrank
If you have iOS 8.1 on your phone all bets are off. It works reasonably well with my Lumia 920 . . . . and perfectly with my Blackberry. Edited March 29, 2015 by bramfrank
dhh3
Which phone and iOS do you have? I am the member using my iPhone6 for Navigation, iOS8.2. I just connect via Bluetooth and it works. But, I do also connect it to the powered USB port in the console. I do this to keep the battery charging, because once I have my trip entered, the phone stays on until I arrive at my destination. I believe that it is using the Bluetooth to break into the radio to call out directions, just as it would with a phone call. I'm thinking that the USB connection is just charging the phone. I have never tried Siri in the car; so, I can not comment on that. I also have the non-Nav 8.4, but I would trade it for a MyGig in a heartbeat! Presently, Uconnect only supports up to iOS7.1. So, this is your dealer's excuse not to get you a new Uconnect module. I can add that it took me 3 or 4 tries to get the phone to connect. The phone came with 8.1, and I just upgraded to 8.2 and it still works. But, the music does not work correctly. I'll have to wait for the update for that. Normagal
Oh my gosh, dhh3, you have made my day! My phone and car and now doing what I want them to do- all it took was plugging in the phone to the USB hub in the middle! I can use the navigation on my phone,I can say Hey Siri- and send a text. I can play music from my phone. I'm just in awe! We've had this car 18 mths, and none of those things worked. For fun, I used Navigation on my phone to get me to the store- just couldn't believe it worked. Called hubby and told him to come out of the house- he had to go for a ride with me. I have an IPhone 6, IOS 8.2. I need to see what My Gig is. Thank you so much!!! Would have been nice if my dealer had a clue about this! Normagal
Dhh3- were you the one that posted a link to a car phone holder that goes in cd slot? I read that somewhere-but can't find it again. We got a vent holder las night, not sure I like it though. One of the big perks of this is that I'll be able to unplug my phone, go in the house, and it will actually Not still be connected to my car:)

One of the big perks of this is that I'll be able to unplug my phone, go in the house, and it will actually Not still be connected to my car:) Yes. I bought it at Best Buy. The Brand Name is Insignia. It also comes with a pad to sit on top of the dash, but that did not work very well. It clips on to the center vents and swivels so the phone can be portrait or landscape. I use landscape because it is more like a GPS. I also have a RealTree OtterBox on the phone and it still fits tight. I also bought an USB adaptor for the plug under the dash, so I can use a shorter USB cord. The first adaptor I bought would not work because it was too long. I found a shorter black one with a on/off light on it and it fit. Weird. Also, both at Best Buy. Now I know that plugging the phone into the USB does more than just charge the phone! Thank you for that. My last phone was a 5s, 64 gig with most of my music on it; played flawlessly. When I upgraded to iOS8, music went to he**. All I had was a list of songs, with no way to control them on the radio. So, my 6 is 16 gig, and I searched hi and low for an iPod with iOS7. Finally found one on ebay, but I'm having the same issues with the music. I copied my entire iTunes library into a folder in my music folder on my PC. Then, I copied this folder onto a SD card. Same problem. I looked at all of the folders on the SD card, within the iTunes folder, and found one folder with just code on it. I removed it from the card and now the card works like the iPod should. They only problem is that any new album/song off of iTunes will not display art - only the generic music keys. I'm getting there. I'll just use the iPod in my hot tub, with a wireless waterproof speaker that I saw in Best Buy two weeks ago! No loss, I guess! Normagal
Ok, you've lost me when you talk about plugging your phone in under the dash. We tried plugging our in in the cigarette lighter thing, but then the phone didn't work. I wish we could plug it in on the dash-is kind of cumbersome to have it plugged in the center console. I nicely called our sales person at the garage and told hm we finally got the phone to work in the car. I thought maybe what I've figured out will help someone. He told me no one at the dealership knew it would work that way if plugged in. I haven't looked at the music situation yet, although we did ask Siri to play a certain artist from the phone and it worked.
Powerz69
Yes, you use the USB port in the center counsel to connect your phone. Or you can use Bluetooth to stream to your radio and plug it into the 12V socket to charge. USB is first choice, but since ios8 it doesn't really work good anymore for many. I use the Bluetooth as the USB doesn't even see my iphone 5 since I took the 8.2 update.
dhh3
My bad. I was going to use the USB adaptor under the dash to charge the iPod if I could get it to work, but I think that the USB in the console is the only one that actually communicates with the radio. I took a round file, and filed a 1/2 round hole on the leading edge of the small sliding tray in the console. When the lid is closed, there is enough room not to pinch the USB cable, and the cable does not run across the top of the tray, getting in the way. I just make a big loop from the USB port, guide it through my hole, and just leave the other end in the console bin if I'm not using it. Does'nt seem to get in the way of anything, including the shifter. Edited March 31, 2015 by dhh3

I read somewhere, maybe in the manual that there is a black clip inside the console beside the USB port that you take out and run the USB cable to the front bin somehow. I looked at mine and I did find the plastic clip that comes off but I never really looked on how to feed the USB cable to the front bin. bigtsr
What your looking at (black cap) is the access to the emergency release for the PARK solenoid release. If you can not get it out of PARK read the manual. Powerz69
Normagal
Guess I need to look and be sure the cord isn't getting pinched. Along these lines, my hubby plugged in his iphone in his 2007 Jeep, and it works the same way as it works in the Journey. Took us long enough to figure this out:)
