Anyone know how to remove it? I need to replace the cover which broke, and it requires removing the entire unit.

Remove what? The power outlet? You need to remove the whole panel. There will be a retaining nut on the back that holds it on.

At least on the rear one, there is no retaining nut. Slip a small screwdriver under metal housing, rotate the screwdriver and it will pop out. I did this a few times when I was trying to find a power source for my rear fog lights.
