AWMCC Posted April 18, 2015 Report Share Posted April 18, 2015 I take our Journey to the dealership for scheduled maintenance, and they have a schedule which is very similar to what the manual suggests. The prices are typically fair, I've never had an issue with them, and I'm happy to pay for the convenience and peace of mind since I work away from home and don't want to spend too much of my time at home doing maintenance, but I can definitely do some things myself if its easy enough and not too time consuming. The last service was the 78,000 km service, which included a bit more, and I noticed a charge of $57.50 for "Service Battery and Terminals". What exactly does this involve? Do they simply check the voltage, and clean the terminals up? There was also $83.50 ($49 for the filter, $34.50 for labour).to replace the Cabin Air Filter, which I looked into and can do myself for $35, and is really easy to do, but that's just something I'll do in the future now. Also, $27 for "supplies", not to be confused with "Parts" which is a specific list of oil, oil filter, air filter, etc, but that's something I'll definitely ask them about, because I get the impression I just paid 30 bucks for dirty rags. Does anyone have any idea whats involved in the "Service Battery and Terminals"? Unless you are having issues and the battery terminals are quite dirty and corroded then consider it as a money grab by the dealership. rolly Posted April 18, 2015 Report Share Posted April 18, 2015 I think dhh3 is right about the battery. Are you sure it was the cabin filter and not the air filter? You can buy a cabin filter at Canadian Tire for less than $20.00 and sometimes on sale for $12-$13 and you're right a simple 2 minute job. The air filter is another easy job that they'll overcharge you as well. Those air filters are a little more pricey though - $40.00 or thereabouts at Canadian Tire.
