ssafm
Just cleaned my Journey for spring. The amount of brake dust on my chrome rims meant that I was scrubbing for hours (even with my trusty Armour All). Yes, the rims are shiny now, but does anyone have any shortcuts they use to shine their rims (or to reduce brake dust)? Thanks! Adam
W_A_Watson_II
Aren't those "Chrome wheels" great, that plastic cover we got is a real pain to clean. Looking for a solution as well.
nocturnal
i haven't tried it yet but someone told me to use bounce dryer sheets and spray and wash to clean the wheels. spray the spray n wash on and let it soak for a minute then use the dryer sheet to wipe it all down. then rinse it off...said "shout" works about the same also. But by the time you put tire shine on it you can see spots.
Nicki88
We use Purple Power. Let it sit for a few minutes and then use a sponge with warm water and soap and then rinse. Takes about 10 minutes total and looks good as new!
dmarzano
Just cleaned my Journey for spring. It worked great! I had to rub on them a bit, but they look almost brand new as my Journey is a year old.
wyoram
When I had chrome rims on a previous ride I would use glass cleaner(the stuff that had a little foam to it, 3M product) to maintain the shine. Worked good for me. This car did not put out a lot of brake dust.
rozwell911
I like glass cleaner...try and find a non-ammona based cleaner so its less corrosive on the wheels. Also, i wax my wheels with 100% carnuba wax...not the liquid kind, but the kind that is like putty in a jar. (Liquid will work, but not as well IMO.) Zymol comes to mind as a brand. crunkfrunk
best stuff hands down is Turtle Wax rim cleaner, has a little brush on the bottle I've used a bunch of brand name rim cleaners but the Turtle Wax stuff took off rust off the aluminum rims on my 2000 Bonneville
TarkMalbot
You could try wheel wax to help stop dust sticking to the rims making them easier to clean in the future.

Windancer
Yes, the rims are shiny now, but does anyone have any shortcuts they use to shine their rims (or to reduce brake dust)? I know that this is a very old thread but I just wanted to tell you that I often use Mr. Clean's Magic Erasers to do this job. They are abrasive enough to remove rust spots and brake dust but not so much that they will cause any damage, I then used Meguirs Carnuba wax on the wheels and they come out very shiny. I've done this many times on my OEM Dodge Wheels on my Journey, as well as my chrome 5 spoke American Eagle 192 rims on my PT. Armour All rim protecant is a great product to keep your rims from collecting dirt ,and most important the brake dust residue. I put it on a week ago and still have no residue on the outside or inside of my rims
