Joni Riihisaari
so, a week ago while driving motorway (speed 120km/h) i drove through little bit bigger waterpuddle. engine shuts down and i steered on side of the road.tried to start engine, startmotor did not do nothing ,windshieldwipers just slowed down, while igniting. towed car to closest Dodge dealer to check what´s wrong.(first thought was wet wires).everything had broke down. now i need new engine. new engine costs here 8800€(like10000$) so i need used ,but working engine. any ideas? dhh3
bramfrank
I suggest you get a second opinion, then look for scrap yards or vehicle breakers if you really need a new engine. From what I'm seeing on eBay, you can replace the entire vehicle for less than what the dealer wants for a new motor.
jkeaton
$10000 for a new engine?? Definitely get a second opinion. What year, what engine? Must have been a pretty freakin big puddle if, in fact, you sucked water into the intake and hydrolocked the engine. dhh3 and Joni Riihisaari
dhh3
Welcome to the forum. Where are you located? It had to have been a very deep puddle to create a bow wave high enough for water to be sucked into the engine. I agree. $10,000 is way too much. jkeaton
redtomatoman
A puddle did in my wife's Saturn v-6 Vue. The intakes are fairly low and she managed to hydrolock the engine. Low mileage used engine was somewhere around $3,000ish USD. Not $10,000!!! Good luck. Peace. jkeaton and dhh3
