pik123
<I made a mistake in the title, I did not mean jerking I meant roughness when switching to D or R) Hello, I own a 2012 3.6 AWD Journey. I've been trying to figure out why it is sometimes very rough when I put it to D or R and try to move. I initially thought it was transmission or transmission fluid. I went to a transmission shop, they connected it to the computer, changed the transmission oil etc. and said the transmission is in perfect condition. The vehicle has only 44k miles on it. I am oversees and local mechanics don't see this kind of vehicles often. Could you kindly let me know what I should check/investigate to possibly find a cause and get rid of that roughness. It does not occur all the time but it happens regularly. I really appreciate your help! Edited May 16, 2015 by pik123
dhh3
Welcome to the forum. There are numerous threads on this very issue. I experience it every morning when I put it in R. Search transmission, and you will find a wealth of knowledge on this very issue. Make sure they used the correct fluid, or you will be in for a world of hurt. It is not a transmission or incorrect fluid issue. I'm trying to see if someone had a similar problem where transmission wasn't at fault. I found on the forum some information about rear axle leaking, I have not notice any leaks. I'd like to see if anyone could suggest a possibility that my mechanics can investigate. Thanks again! bigtsr
AWD does not engage on the DJ unless a wheel speed sensor indicates slippage , then the rear wheel control system takes over and engages the rear drive. Try using the tranny in manual mode to see if it's present.

Could you explain what you mean by "AWD does not engage on the DJ"
bigtsr
Thanks that's very valuable. Could you explain what you mean by "AWD does not engage on the DJ" The DJ is "AWD not operator designated FULL TIME AWD" such as in a JEEP product. Again it only goes into AWD mode when slippage occurs in the primary FWD wheels although all the running gear in the rear is turning. You can not turn it on with a selector. silenze
The rough shifts happen on every 6 speed journey. Its just a fact of life
BrianS
I experienced something similar with my '15. Started out with trans not shifting out of low gear, then shifting normally but banging into gear very harshly. In my case, it was the speed sensor. (I assumed an input speed sensor, but not sure) Not exactly like your problem, but similar.
Lobitz68
Normal operation when the vehicle has been sitting for a while. If it bothers you then shift to N first and then to R or D. It is not harming anything and is not a sign of your transmission going out. The remark about the transmission fluid was in reference to the fact that they changed your fluid. If they did not use the Mopar specified ATF+4 fluid it will cause a lot of problems and void your warranty.
