2late4u Posted June 3, 2015 Report Share Posted June 3, 2015 (edited) just got back from my last free oil change at the dealership and while waiting for my vehicle i happen to go to the parts window and started talking how i had 3 oil filters left over from my 2011 3.6 and just assumed they would be the same for my 2014 3.6 and to my surprise he said no that there was a slight difference in them and he showed me one of each yr. and the older filter was a little shorter and the new one had a 3 sided legs going up about 1/4 inch with a round tip on top of it. he said for me to return my old ones and he would swap them out for the correct ones so be carefull when ordering your oil filters from where ever you get them. bfurth Posted June 3, 2015 Report Share Posted June 3, 2015 They redesigned the 3.6L filter in 2012(? - it might have been '13, I forget exactly when the change was made). The new engines have a bigger filter. In the old days (and with the 2.4L), you could just make a bigger filter that still fit the threads and didn't affect ground clearance. The 3.6L has a drop in filter (instead of the old canister style) and requires a new casting for that component, making the new one wholly incompatible with the old one. Always double check your part numbers! Do not trust Amazon, Advance Auto, AutoZone, Pep Boys, O'Reilly's, or anyone else. Go to the manufacturer of the part and check the vehicle compatibility from them. For example, Amazon shows that the L10241 (Purolator Classic) filter fits my '10 T&C (Chrysler 3.8L engine) but the PL10241 (Purolator ONE filter), identical in everything (except filter media to the L10241 and the ONE model has the rubberized coating on the can to make it easier to install) does not fit. Purolator says both fit (no kidding - it's basically the same part). Always compare the old part to the new one before installation (and before removing anything that prevents return, if at all possible). Woah322 Posted June 4, 2015 Report Share Posted June 4, 2015 (edited) It changed for 2014 and newer Penstar 3.6 motors. The filter from 11,12.13 would fit a 2014 and most people don't realize the difference until they have no oil pressure and have issues cause they used the wrong filter. 2late4u Posted June 4, 2015 Author Report Share Posted June 4, 2015 if you do your own oil changes as soon as you removed your old filter and opened the new one you would know right away that there was a part change ,of course then you would have to reuse the old one or go get the new one....
