bear
Hi there from New Zealand! We just recently bought a new Dodge Journey R/T for my wife - she wanted leather seats and navigation, my daughter wanted a DVD screen, and I wanted something that looked cool. They both got their wishes, but seeing as they don't make a SRT version, I figured I would have to make our own. onecrazyfoo4u
Wow, very tastefully done! How did you clear out the amber reflectors in the headlamps? Wheels, strips, headlights all look superb. dhh3
Woah322
I like the rims, fits the car well dhh3
bear
Thanks for the welcome everyone! The wheels are 20 x9 with a +40 offset. They are sold in New Zealand as a BGW Storm, but I'm pretty sure they must be sourced from the US, possibly under some other name. I have been searching for the last 6 months for something that fits the Journey ( and doesn't look like a disc out of a food processor ). Every decent 5-spoke rim I found on Ebay suddenly went out of production when I ordered it, or in the case of the last set, despite the seller quoting it as a definite fitment for a '14 Journey, fouled up on the front caliper. That was after paying $120 shipping per wheel to get them here from the States. So, anyways, I had the front face of the wheels painted to match the stripes , as they were supplied in a matt gunmetal finish. Tires are Falken 245/45/20, which are exactly the same height as the original 19s. I fitted a set of H & R springs - same deal again - advertised on Ebay as fitting '09 thru '14, but the rear coils don't fit the later Journeys. After spending the best part of 2 hours gutting the interior to get at the top mounts for the rear springs and finding they didn't fit, I wasn't about to put it all back together without some kind of result, so ended up cutting one coil off the original springs and re-installing. Springs are still captive, and the front and rear fender to tire gaps are now spot on. The front ones fitted up nice right out of the box. I made up and fitted the striping myself (I'm a sign guy by day). The stripes run fully from front to back, right over the roof which was a bit of a mission, but well worth the effort! As for the headlights missing the amber reflectors, that is how they came as stock. I guess the 'export' models must have a different light to the US version. Most of the stuff we get over here now has clear lenses but with amber bulbs where necessary. An easy retro-fit for you guys wanting a clear lens, although we are right hand drive so our lights dip the opposite way - I'm not sure whether that is a function of the lens or the bulb? dhh3 and onecrazyfoo4u
B4ZINGA
Light direction is a function of the reflector behind the bulb, and possibly bulb orientation. Your housings would not be legal outside of Australia, New Zealand, Japan, certain African countries, and the UK. Is your Journey AWD or FWD? H&R makes springs for FWD Journeys, though they never state that AWD won't fit. If you have AWD, then now we know the rear springs won't work. How is the ride quality after cutting the rear springs? dhh3
bear
Figured it was more likely the housing than the bulb. Our Journey is FWD, sadly the AWD is not available in NZ. Seems like they must have changed the rear springs prior to '14 because the spring in the H & R kit was a 'beehive' shape, and our spring was only tapered at one end. We cut one coil off the other end and ground a flat on the cut so that it wouldn't dig in to the spring cup. Ride quality is great - ever so slightly firmer as you would expect with shortening the spring, and as you can see from the picture, it now sits real nice and even. The handling is greatly improved. Still getting used to all that power in a front wheel drive tho'. My daily driver work truck is an '03 Chevy Silverado SS AWD. dhh3
B4ZINGA
That's interesting. I wouldn't think Dodge or Fiat would have a reason to change the rear springs for 2014. Is it a 3-row or 2-row model? Just trying to figure out what might cause the difference. The ride height you have is perfect. My fear when my factory tires wear out and I seriously look at new wheels and tires is the wheel gap being too much, and lowering the front will just make it look weird. dhh3
bear
It's a 3 -row. All the journeys over here are 7 seat. We only get the SXT and the R/T versions. Ours is R/T with leather, navigation, reversing camera and 8" screen, rear DVD screen and 19" rims. Both models come with the 3.6 petrol and 6-speed auto, in FWD only.
