DJfan
Hi I am new here. I have a question about the Dodge Journey rear turn signal taillights. I saw a few DJ on the road that had the non-led (2009-2010) taillights and maybe AVP model taillights and when the turn signal came on, the brake lights were used as the turn signals and the amber lights never came on. I thought that both the Led and non-Led turn signals had amber turn signals? Can someone tell me more about this? Thanks. dhh3
dhh3
Welcome to the forum. That seems to be an odd duck, because I've only seen the amber turn signals. jkeaton
jkeaton
My turns are Amber. Everything else is red led. dhh3
dhh3
Did it have a hitch? Maybe someone screwed up the wiring. jkeaton
Cody Chornobey Powley
I actually did the break as turn signal.mod on mine. I deleted the ambdr and put another reverse light in its place and the inner led is turn signal along with the break. Lo e the update I did dhh3 and francismori7

Lo e the update I did No way in hell you are getting away with not letting us know how you did the mod. Spit it out!!! I wonder if you could do the mod you did and add one of those flashers that have them flash sequentially from the inside out, kind of like you see on a lot of Mustangs. That would interest me a great deal. jkeaton, francismori7 and dhh3
dhh3
Get the LEDs to flash one at a time to make a complete circle! jkeaton

dhh3
Dodge refers to them as The Ring of Fire. But, I would be interested as how he made the inside lights flash. The inside lights have 2 wires going to them; the outside lights have 3. Edited September 2, 2015 by dhh3 jkeaton
Cody Chornobey Powley
Diode dynamics makes the module for the break as turn mod. But I ran new wires to the inner leds and dis those myself. Lobitz68 and dhh3
Cody Chornobey Powley
Inside leds have 2/wires. +/- tap into the +/- into the amber turn signal wires and vuala but for the break lights you need that module from dd Lobitz68 and dhh3

This does not come with a resistor like the vehicle specific modules they make; did you need to install a resistor to get rid of hyperblink? (I assume so, but figured I'd ask anyhow) dhh3
Cody Chornobey Powley
Yes sir. Resistor was needed dhh3
Lobitz68
Thanks for the info. I contacted them and I think I am going to switch my turns to the LEDs (including the one on the hatch) and put in a module to run them sequentially. dhh3
dhh3
How hard is it to run wires through the hatch? Since the outside light has 3 wires (12v), I could buy 3 wire plugs for the inside lights and just tap into the outside wires. Since all the stuff to make the LEDs work are inside the housings, I could have 4 brake lights. Hmm.......something to think about. Cody Chornobey Powley
It's easy to run wires from the hatch. Pop off the back cover and everything g is exposed. You'll have to pull and there are a few screws inside the dj around the ba k hatch on the back side of the lights. I ran wires up and over to the driver side. dhh3
dhh3
I don't think my idea will work because the receptacle only has two pins, not three like the outside light.
Cody Chornobey Powley
I tried using them as well for breaks. But they do infact have three pins so I plugged them into my break and and on the running function worked. Pushed the break and they didn't get any brighter dhh3
dhh3
I guess no 4 brake lights for me! Thanks for trying.
Cody Chornobey Powley
I mean you could use them as a break and that's about it. Only can be used as one function. So either a turn signal or a break is your options dhh3
dhh3
OIC. I took my lights apart last fall for a member who wanted to convert his lights to LEDs. I posted pictures of the housings and lights, and he never answered back. It's been a year so I will check and see if the insides have three pins. I just don't remember. If so, I'll convert them to brakes and keep my amber signal lights. Thanks again!
Cody Chornobey Powley
My inner led lights have three pins. So I hooked them up to the break lights and just the running part worked. Step on the breaks and they still stayed on running light. I think there is a driver inside there that is keeping it from haveing dual intensesity. I wanna open these lights and paint the chrome black but I think they are sealed with perma and not sure if its worth the hasle or not. dhh3
dhh3
Good to know. I won't waste anytime time trying to do this. Thank you for the post. jkeaton and Cody Chornobey Powley

(I assume so, but figured I'd ask anyhow) I sent an email to diodedynamics to see if they make a gizmo so that the inside LEDs can be a brake light too. They are not open on the weekends. I'm going to leave the signal amber Also, need recommendations for a brighter back up bulb. Type and bulb # would be great so I know what I'm looking for. Thank you. jkeaton
