Yes, the sound is degraded when satellite radio is selected, but all other sources sound great. As far as the bass, have you increased the bass in the settings? It does make a huge difference. I too have the Alpine upgrade and I find it sounds quite nice. Hope this info helps...

Yep bass was already set to half way before I bought the car. It had 22 kms on the odo

As stated previously, when I listen to satellite music the bass is auful. I like a lot of bass too so that's why I have my bass level set to max. No problem listening to FM, CD, or USB Flash Drive except in lower volumes. This was a "No Charge" upgrade when I bought mine in July.

There are quite a few posts criticising the quality of the 'premium sound' system. Neither of my Journeys came with it and they sound darned good the way they are, so I'm happy. It wasn't a 'no charge option', by the way (nothing is 'no charge', but was included as part of an package in your vehicle.

I don't listen to the SiriusXM source much except for Jazz and Blues and even then only rarely because the selections they play often suck. It doesn't help that all of their announcers are sooooooo bad - and Cousin Brucey needs to retire 10 years ago - he must be 80 years old and has no place on the dial any more.

Having critiqued the content I will say that I find that the acoustic balance of the satellite music is 'limited' and 'flat', further reducing my enjoyment of the service.

So I have an iPod in the armrest loaded with 5,000 songs and I often listen to a news/talk radio channel on AM, but FM certainly sounds excellent when I tune to a station on that band.

Kicker makes an under seat sub for single cab pick up trucks. It is in a ported box, similar to the Bose Radios and fit with plenty of room under my seat. It has a remote gain dial, and I have to keep it at I mark below 1/2, or it hurts my ears. I had the standard crap system and replaced all of my speakers with 2-way 6x9 Alpines. For the dash, I substituted Alpine Tweeters with built in crossovers. The sub is wired between the radio and the Alpine amp I installed. I have a thread on the forum with all the items I used.
