bkregan
Hi, my 2014 R/T gives a horrible clunk when stuck in traffic going from 1st to 2nd or down from 2 to 1. I asked the mechanic and he said they like to be under load and use the manual shift to hold the gear as the clunk is it not truely ready for that gear. He said nothing to worry about though. dhh3
bigtsr
Nothing I have experienced in over 4 years of driving my DJ. I would use a Chryler dealer and use the warranty for drive train. dhh3
jkeaton
Mine clunks too. Common. Dealer told me the same thing. Normal. I'll use my warranty should something happen. dhh3 and Lobitz68
Lobitz68
Same here... happens. Got the lifetime warranty...not worried about it. It IS annoying though. jkeaton and dhh3

Eric Roland
Mine does this too. It also does a kind of short repetitive clunks when accelerating from stop into a turn. Like at a stop sign turning. I have an appointment with dealer, because it actually is quite annoying. The clunk seems to be happening more often than not. jkeaton
They will tell you it's normal.
Eric Roland
Right, but reading in other posts people have had viscous unit replaced and even transmission replaced. I'm thinking its how squeaky of a wheel you are, and what dealer you go to. example: http://www.dodgejourneyforum.com/topic/5960-awd-shifting-hard/
jkeaton
So are you AWD? Sorry, didn't see that.
Eric Roland
Yes I am AWD.
jkeaton
Ah, Ok, Then it is definitely worth pushing them on.
mseibel
My Journey gives a clunk just BEFORE the 2-3 upshift. I've talked to the dealer and they investigated, but they haven't shared their findings. I really notice this when I'm rounding a corner, and I'm wondering if it's drive line wind-up since mine too is AWD.
mseibel
My other transmission complaint is a shudder in reverse and on the 1-2 upshift when it's cold out. These only happen once, then disappear for the rest of the drive. I don't think they're related.
