bigtsr
Welcome to the forum. There may have been 1 previous post with regards to a problem with the battery tray as I recall. Possibly untreated and subject to local enviroment (salt) caused the failure. dhh3
jkeaton
Welcome to the forum. There currently is no recall for rusted battery trays. As stated, could be caused by leaking battery or salt/corrosion. At least you have a new one now. Going forward, maybe give it a good wash down every once in awhile. dhh3
Lobitz68
I have seen this once... was staining a guys driveway, which is what led him to find it... Never heard anything additional about it after the replacement. jkeaton and dhh3
dhh3
I had my DJ undercoated right after I purchased it. I'm guessing they spayed the goop on the bottom of the tray, but if the battery should leak, I guess that I would be SOL! jkeaton
lytefall
Same thing happened to my parents 2010 DJ. They took it to 2 different dodge dealers and an independent shop over a 6 month period. The only reason they finally figured it out was because we took pictures of the staining in relation to where the tire sat with measurements which basically showed them where to look for the cause. The staining completely ruined their brand new driveway. There's a 12" wide 15' long rust spot running down their driveway that's still very visible even 6 months after the tray was replaced. dhh3
bramfrank
Rustproofing is a good option for any new vehicle in ANY environment - the spray will protect electrical connections and grounding points and will dampen any buzzy components, though your mechanic might not like it so much.I never bothered doing it every year, but every few - just to keep things covered - never had a serious rust issue and even a 13 year old vehicle driven year round in a heavily salted environment worked perfectly until the end.It is worth the $80 it costs. jkeaton
