Johnnyh
I have a whine when I start my DJ when engine is cold. It's a 16 DJ Crossroads with the six cylinder engine. The noise fades away after it gets warm. Seems like its a bearing on one of the pulley's driven by the belt. Anyone else have the same problem. Thanks, John dhh3
hockey_puck
Likely Idler pulley noise. Common problem. Old TSB attached. TSB.pdf dhh3
Johnnyh
I hear you and thanks. I can't however force a repair without a tsbs including 2016 in it. Sucks I only have 1500 miles on it. I also have a leather seat cracking problem, dhh3
Lobitz68
I would be surprised if the idler is the cause in the 2016... Let's not pretend that the 3.6 is a quiet engine, it may very well be normal operation. Can you take a video of the noise and post it? dhh3
xcaliber81
I mean how cold is it? dhh3
jkeaton
Mine makes noises on a cold start up like no other vehicle I have owned. Nature of the beast. Use the correct oil and don't worry about it. dhh3
onecrazyfoo4u
Power steering pump whine is normal as well, for the first couple of seconds after starting. Mine never does it when parked in the garage. But the power steering pump will whine for 1-2 seconds if I leave it outside overnight in the 10-20deg F range. Common issue you can see by searching on here. jkeaton and dhh3
xcaliber81
My 2008 dodge caliber did that in -30 weather lol. dhh3 and jkeaton
Johnnyh
I'm talking a cold engine not cold outside. Does it in 50 degree weather. Not being caused by driving or moving the car. The noise is at idle. Engine runs real quiet after that. dhh3
bigtsr
This was a previously posted concern which was traced back one of the pulleys and if I remember correctly there was a fix , bring it to the dealer. dhh3
dhh3
I brought mine in to the Dealer last summer. Unfortunately, by the time I drive to the Dealer, it was warm! Duh........They were aware of the TSB, and 2014 was not included. It is noted in my file, so I am covered. As for the leather, if you mean lines, and not cracked all the way through to the foam, this is common with every Mopar vehicle I have ever owned with leather seats. Official Dodge Support DodgeCares Posted December 14, 2015 Official Dodge Support Report Share Posted December 14, 2015 Have you had your DJ to a dealership yet to check this out, Johnny?
Easy Rider
Not sure if this is the same issue (pulley) or not, but on cold starts (-1C or colder) there is what sounds like a flute noise that lasts for 2-3 minutes then disappears. It's not a high pitched noise so am not sure what it is. It's a 2013 Crew. Any ideas folks? Update: my original post was from yesterday, the low flute noise still goes away after 2-3 minutes but now the noise appears briefly (3 seconds) after I touch the brakes, every time!. Have an appointment for late next week at the dealership, will let you know what they say... Edited January 23, 2016 by Easy Rider
