Mcgusto82
Happy New Years guys. I know this has been discussed before but not under the same circumstances. Here's what happened. I bought my wife a new phone so we needed to remove s phone from the uconnect list but the "+" on the screen won't work. I disconnected neg cable from car. Waited about an hour. After I reattached everything back, I started the car and nothing was on the screen. The HVAC controls aren't doing anything either. And I got the fabled blower at full blast. Anything thing, traction control button isn't doing anything either. I quickly disconnected battery again, put it back, same. I even took it out an ran it for a few. Turned back on, same. I checked fuses under hood, and under pass, but it wasn't fun to get to the pass fuses. Then I noticed that I can remove and insert CD into radio. So it's got power. Before I left for work I left batt -neg cable off, and I guess I try again later tonight. I guess if all fails, I still have the original 4.3S set up from 2012. I'm out of warranty by time too. 26k, but I'm 3.5 yrs into the car already. That and they'll just blame the 8.4 screen cause I changed it from the 4.3 (yeah, back in '12). Any thoughts? dhh3
bramfrank
I got nothing. If the fuses are good and resetting the car didn't help then who knows? A half-unplugged cable, perhaps? A corroded ground that got pushed over the edge when you cycled power?
Mcgusto82
Diagnosis : bad lockpick. I'm mad that there's little options out there other than lockpick. I removed it and everything is working fine. The electronic board indide looks poorly soldered. There's a bunch of corrosion on it. My car hasn't gone swimming either. Anyways.. On another note, unplugging the battery for 22 hours did not erase the "paired phones" list. I had to use the old 4.3 radio and screen to delete them. No big deal since I had removed the 8.4 radio to troubleshot the no power issue. dhh3
bramfrank
Glad to hear you figured it out.I didn't expect the list to be impacted. And the pairing data must be stored in the Bluetooth module, which makes perfect sense. As to the lockpick - I don't know what features you used it for, but I know that if it as reasonably priced I'd have liked it for the ability to enter data with the vehicle in gear. But given how much they charge for it, I decided I would do without. Mcgusto82
I originally got the lockpick for the back up cam and I bought it from another member for like 150$, so it wasn't expensive. It was new too. Back in those days, i could not find anywhere info on adding the oem camera which later it was found out. Besides, I had read a lot about how glitchy the oem camera is/was. So it just affects the back up can for now. Looking on eBay for another lockpick. 😒 Gonna seal it with jelly this time. dhh3
bramfrank
Why not simply connect the camera to the vehicle and have the sales code added?
Mcgusto82
At this point, I already have a hard wired cam in place. Routing a new cam would be a pain in the a$$. Last I checked the oem cam is around 350$ plus sales code program. Again, I can easily replace a bad cam from eBay. Around 30$. The Chrysler cam tends to act funny in cold weather ( I have a '15 caravan with the back up cam). That and I already have the lockpick wired up. I've been thinking (for about 3 years lol) of adding that available turn signal camera. dhh3
bramfrank
The video input on the radio is an absolutely standard composite video lead - it's actually the one that the Lockpick uses, so all you'd need to do is to extend the video output of your present camera to the video input on the connector of the radio (information on which pins can be found online and also in the OEM installation manual or from any of the aftermarket providers. in fact there are vendors on the web who will sell you a conventional adapter cable with an RCA video input to adapt your camera output without having to fabricate a cable or cutting and splicing the end of your present one..Yes, you WOULD need to have the sales code enabled - but a dealer might charge very little for that (when I did mine they charged me for an hour, so I have them terminate the cable from the kit to the back of the radio - I'd already paid them for the time anyway). And for the record, I paid US$265 for the OEM kit - but you wouldn't need it if you used your existing camera. dhh3
I had the same issue with a Lockpick in my Nitro. The camera suddenly stopped working. I checker all the connections, all the dip pin switches to make sure it had not changed from High Speed to Low Speed Bus. It was still under warranty so I sent it back. Someone at Lockpick signed for it; I checked UPS Tracking. It was in their building, and I waited about a week and emailed the seller. They lost it; so, Coastal sent me a new one. I also had a Coastal Camera, but Coastal no longer makes Cameras. Chrysler never made a Camera kit for the Nitro; the closest one that I could get to fit was from a Caravan, so I went with a Lockpick. The Lockpick will support up to 4 Cameras and a nice feature was that I could hit the phone button twice in quick succession and the Camera would come on at any time, and do the same to turn it off. I'm not sure if this feature works with these new crap radios. As far as issues with the Factory Camera, I had mine installed by my Dealer as part of the deal purchasing my DJ and it has worked flawlessly for 1.5 years. This is my second winter with it. The only issue is that it collects dirt, so I wipe it off occasionally. I bought an extended warranty, so if it has issues, I'm covered. $0 deductible! bramfrank
Note that dealer installed options are NOT covered by the Chrysler OEM extended warranty. But dealers have their tricks that they can use in order to get claims for this sort of thing through when properly motivated. dhh3
Maybe in Canada they aren't, but in the US they are. Any Mopar part installed by a Certified Mopar Dealer becomes part of the vehicle, and thus covered by the warranty. The Camera has been added to my Sales Code Sheet; so, it is like it came from the factory, and is covered as such.
bramfrank
Well, as it happens I thought that it sounded a bit off, so I decided to call Mopar Protection (the US entity that administers US extended OEM warranties) and the representative told me in no uncertain terms that anything that was added after the vehicle was manufactured is NOT covered under the vehicle warranty, neither original, nor extended. OEM parts and accessories are covered by the specific warranty for those accessories, generally one year. What she then she told me was that claims are validated against the original build order and if it isn't listed there it isn't covered by factory. But, like I said, your friendly service manager can always find a way, if suitably motivated. dhh3
Well then, all of the instruction sheets of Mopar Accessories which I have purchased over that past 20 odd years must have been printed wrong. bramfrank
Well then, all of the instruction sheets of Mopar Accessories which I have purchased over that past 20 odd years must have been printed wrong. I guess so: http://www.mopar.com/assets/pdf/service_specials/mopar_parts_accessories_warranty_statement.pdf Since I had already called and spoken with the customer service specialist ad she had said in no uncertain terms that accessories added after the fact are NOT covered by the new vehicle or extended warranties I'd have thought you might actually go and check.. So, just for the heck of it I took out the instructions I have here from the backup camera - it has no warranty statement. I also took out the sheet from the cross rails I'd purchased. IT has no warranty statement. I looked at page from the roller blind I got for the '11 ad it too has NO warranty statement - and all those were purchased in the US. And the other various sheets that came with other things I've bought also no warranty statements. The ONLY statement I could find is the link above - and IT says that until October 1 2014 it was 1 year and since October 1 it is 2 years. As you know I try to be thorough, so I went and read the coverage documents for the OEM extended warranty and they say nothing about covering things you added after the fact as far as I can tell. And there's the fact that FCA says it isn't so either. So, is it possible you are right and they are not? bramfrank
So . . . . it ISN'T in all the instruction sheets of everything you've bought over the last 20 years and it ISN'T documented in your extended warranty documentation? Your dealer doesn't approve claims. Mopar protection does. Edited January 8, 2016 by bramfrank
dhh3
You are OCD or on Crack. I believe that I have seen your mug on "Drugs, Inc". Get your head out of your a** and see the world how it really is. You too f'n stupid to even know how to take a compliment. Sit at home and play with yourself and pretend you are driving your DJ. That will keep you occupied for a little while. What an a**. Edited January 9, 2016 by dhh3
bramfrank
You are OCD or on Crack. I believe that I have seen your mug on "Drugs, Inc". Get your head out of your a** and see the world how it really is. You too f'n stupid to even know how to take a compliment. Sit at home and play with yourself and pretend you are driving your DJ. That will keep you occupied for a little while. What an a**. You crack me up (pardon the pun). I'm not OCD, just accurate. I'm sorry you are upset to have been wrong, but that was you. Not me. You challenged the correction THREE times, and almost certainly didn't bother to check anything (like that statement about printed warranties on everything you've purchased). I spent 10 years managing a high tech support call centre and 20 years (5 of which overlapped the support function) as director of sales for international markets selling, negotiating contacts and designing high tech wide area wireless data networks for military, public safety, transportation and resource clients around the globe - mission criticality was the key factor in those products and accuracy of information was the key to the success of the company and to growing it's reputation. So I have come to be sensitive to when people seem to be blowing smoke. And when they do it I will take the time to verify the claim - it serves to inform ME if I was unaware or wrong. And when done in public, as a component of trying to help someone it will protect others who may be influenced by the misinformation. For some reason you seem to always keep pushing when your perceptions have been corrected . . . it isn't hard to verify your facts and it shouldn't be hard to admit you were mistaken. And you were mistaken. That it might bite you in the rear is one thing. But the public you are counselling should know what the facts are. So if someone knows that advice is wrong they really ought to step up and issue the correction. That's no reason for you to get upset with anyone but yourself and certainly no excuse to go off on a tirade.
dhh3
OMG. I should have known. An IT Twiget! You actually post a resume on a Dodge Journey Forum? Out of all the resumes that I have read in my life, they all had one thing in common: they were all "enhanced" to make the prospective client look better than he or she actually was. Interviewing, hiring/firing almost became a game to me, when it came to actual performance when compared to the written word (resume). I stand by everything that I have posted on this Forum. To the OP: I apologize for hyjacking your thread. Apologies are in order. Edited January 10, 2016 by dhh3

To the OP: I apologize for hyjacking your thread. Apologies are in order. Name calling; the last refuge of the indefensible. While I am pleased to see you have apologised, it was clearly for the wrong reason. As to the "resume", as you called it - it was not - it was an explanation of why I took the time to correct your bad information, since you had engaged in a apoplectic name calling session when your 3rd attempt to bully it through was refuted. With reference to my expertise, please don't project your personna on my character. YOU might enhance such things. But I do not. In fact, a statement like yours calls your own credibility into question. How can you stand by and try to defend your outright wrong claims? THAT is what you should be apologising for. jkeaton
To all my DF friends. Can't we just all get along? I apologize for my past transgressions. Let's all just bury the hatchet and move on. I would ask, in the future, arguments be done through PM's and not out here for everyone to see. We all bring valuable knowledge and past experiences to the forum. Let's try and keep it that way. Topics get taken off track way too much. If we are to be a technical resource instead of a Facebook page, we need to focus on the thread topic. Useless memes and arguments don't help the person asking an honest question and makes searching for an answer about damn impossible. I'm not trying to be a nazi, but I do need to maintain control as it seems I'm the only active mod (with extremely limited powers) on this forum. I don't like it, but I will start deleting posts that don't address the thread question/issue. There are no stated rules for this forum, admins fault, not mine. That being said, I will use my own common sense ( which may not be shared) in determining thread responses and will delete said responses if I determine they are not helpful. Some of you may not like that aporoach and I encourage you to propose alternative methods. Or feel free to contact an admin (I honestly have no idea who he/she/they are). Bottom line, there are Facebook groups out there for Journeys that have people asking questions we have answered 10 fold and I invite them to visit here as this should be a more controlled environment to ask questions and not get flamed for it. Yes, I have not been behaving appropriately, but I now realize that and want to make this forum great. Hope you can understand.
