pacman
Last service on my '09 DJ (oil and filters change) has been a little surprise. I was told that front left wheel bearing had to be replaced, and another bearing, this time the one at the right transmission axle was damaged too. Car is FWD and almost 85.000 kms (less than 55.000 miles), anyone has suffered same problem? In addition, bearings (both) are totally rusted, is that normal? I want to keep my DJ 5 years more (at least), and I'm going to spend more than 500 in this repairing. I hope it's worth. jkeaton and dhh3
jkeaton
We had our 09 for 4 years and 80,000+ miles, never had any sort of bearing issue. That being said, it is not unheard of for rotating parts to fail. both bearings being rusted sounds like a lack of lubrication (grease) issue. I assume you actually saw the parts while still on the vehicle? dhh3
pacman
Nop. Mechanic showed me them after unmounting. If it has been a lack of lubrication, should I see a stain (dark) on my parking place? dhh3
jkeaton
Not necessarily, especially if they never greased them from the factory. dhh3
Dusty256
Though these cars had complete hub assemblies with non serviceable bearings ... In other words a seal unit where you can replace just the bearings... jkeaton
SeanTacular
Do you have aftermarket rims or Oem? On my old car I put on extra wide rims and the added stress wore out the factory bearing pretty quick. Also hitting lots of pot holes and bumps in the road can also wear them out quicker. jkeaton and dhh3
pacman
No rims mod added to my DJ. It's a SXT, so rims are 17", with 225/65 R 17 tires. I'll be careful about bumps. Never drove offroad, anyway. dhh3
