Passive Entry Issue

Recommended Posts

Both front doors won't open with passive entry. It was fine yesterday. Went to get in the DJ this morning and they won't work.

I thought maybe FOB battery was dead, nope. Maybe interference from some electronics I had on me, nope. Lock button in handle works fine to lock the doors. FOB works fine, interior button fine. Passive entry on rear hatch works fine.

Any ideas?

A battery disconnect should be done at the negative battery post as opposed to the jump start post. I tried to reboot a radio in a Grand Cherokee at the jump start post and it didn't work. Unhooked it from the battery and it did the trick. There is still live power on the bus cable unless you disconnect from the battery. It's a pain in the butt on the Journey but it's the only sure way to kill the voltage completely.

Actually, if you disconnect wire from the positive jumper connection I believe you will completely power down the vehicle - it's the disconnect point recommended in the backup camera installation instructions and it seems to be the same as my old LHS - one heavy cable from the battery positive post to the tie point.

Same issue with driver side door passive entry stopped working but passanger side was fine.

Took it in and they found that the RF module is damaged for the driver side only and needs replacing.

Thank god still in warranty.

Thanks for posting your resolution! Hopefully this will assist others who may have the same symptoms.

my 2014 had about 4k on it we went to las vegas from al and after being there a few days the locks quit working unless using a key or inside buttons took it to the local dealer next morning and they started working okay, just before the dealership opened so i left and got almost back to the casino and stopped to wash it got back in it and the air would work but only coming out the floor vents went back to the dealer and of course his mech for the ac was on vacation so made an appointment for a few days later and the next morning the air was working fine oh well i just chalked it up to computer software messing up, this last yr was coming back from our 2nd trip to vegas in it and noticed as i was heading east the evic was saying i was heading west LOL got out the manual head had to do a reset and everything started working okay again, anf then just a few days ago i shut the rear hatch door and the back up cam, air ,and radio quit working drove it home shut it off and removed the stuff from the rear and then tried starting it back up and everything works okay. car kind of acts like my computer does when it mess up just turn it off and give it a rest and everything starts back up oh well i love my Journey anyway.....

I am currently having the same problem with my 2015 Dodge Journey. The fob works, the inside buttons work but the passive entry exterior door buttons don't.  Mine stopped working and then came back a few days later but eventually stopped working permanently (it has been months). I am not auto savvy and don't know how to do some of the things that are suggested above.

Hi Concretegirl13,

We certainly understand why this may be concerning. We kindly recommend having your dealer inspect this concern for you as they are in the best position to assist. If you do work with your dealer, we would be more than happy to provide you with additional support.
