lytefall
Both rear doors groan and pop when I open them. Worse the colder it is. I was going to lube the hinges but the noise seems to be coming from the spring. Not sure lubricating a spring will change anything? Ideas other than replacement parts? dhh3
larryl
Its the salt and grime seizing things up a little lube will help dhh3 and jkeaton
dhh3
On the top of the bottom hinge is a pawl with dentents that hold the door open at specific intervals. This is where the noise will originate. Put some Lithium grease on the pawls. The detents are semi-circular. onecrazyfoo4u
Exactly what dhh3 said. I spray white lithium grease on the hinge joints about twice a year...when the start making popping noises. dhh3, jkeaton, lytefall and 1 other

Journeyphenia
I suspect the noise is very slight movement of the hinge plate against the body. On mine, sometimes lube at the detent helped and sometimes not. Sometimes penetrating oil behind the hinge plate got rid of the sound.
