jkeaton
Not trying or wanting to start a debate but the last oil change I decided to let the car tell me when to change it instead of my normal 6000 mile/6 month interval. It just came on today. 7770 miles and 7 months after the last change. dhh3, rolly, Neto and 1 other
Neto
Ours seldom even gets up to 3,000, but it's my wife's car, we live right in this small town, and she does a lot of short trips. We only put 6-7k or so on in an entire year. (It's a 2009, built in early 2008, and it's still under 68,000 miles.) dhh3
probak118
Ya, I go by the 6 month rule on my DJ but, the dealer (GM) told my wife when the free oil changes on her 2014 Trax are over. Only use the computer remind then change oil. So, that will be more than a year with her driving habits. Should be interesting should warranty issue ever occur. dhh3
bigtsr
Rule of thumb has always been when the oil change indicator comes on/at least every 6 months/ whatever mileage you personally feel comfortable with or can afford. Yea can see the GM dealer writing up that "failure to do maintenance" report. dhh3
Dusty256
I go by the oil change light or 6,000 miles. dhh3
jkeaton
As long as you follow the maintenance schedule provided by the manufacturer and you document it, the dealer has to honor any warranty repair. The manual states use the oil change indicator but do not exceed 10,000 miles. dhh3
2late4u
i always use the 2nd trip mileage counter for my oil change that way i dont have to look it up in the book and i dont like thoes little stickers that some places put on your window, even tho i do mine own oil changes BlindSquirrel, newrollo and dhh3
cart7881
2009 SXT, 3.5, built 07/30/08. Purchased 02/14/09. Driven mostly on weekends, by a little old lady. Has 18,388 miles on the clock and 12 oil changes. Averages less than 1,000 miles between changes. Lifetime powertrain warranty requires following the maintenance schedule which specifies 6,000 miles or 6 months. Oil coming out looks just like it did when it went in. dhh3
dhh3
My extended warranty gives me free oil changes, every 4,250 miles or 4 months. I never make the mileage, so it gets changed every 4 months at my Dealer. Going in tomorrow.
Neto
I hadn't thought to check the time interval between when I reset the notification, and when it comes on again. I had assumed that it was the many starts & short runs that was making it come on at such a low point mileage wise. Maybe it is just timing out at 6 months. newrollo
I use the change oil indicator in the dash. When it gets to 25% I start looking for a deal on oil and filter. dhh3

dhh3
OIC It's just the oil change indicator. Mine has never come on!
silenze
It displays the message oil change due when you start the car. It is also in your message center. You would never see it if your dealer changes your oil and resets the counter. Also i dont know what he is talking about because my 2011 doest show how much oil life is left Edited April 2, 2016 by silenze

newrollo
Yea my bad. Was thinking of my 14' Cherokee. It shows % to oil change. Journey does not show until it is time to change oil.
