efn_ph
so here is the first step I have done, change transmission fluid and filter, cleared code and after a 2 day drive, CEL came back on again with the same code. Any ideas what is wrong? dhh3
dhh3
What code did you get that made you change the transmission fluid? A little more information would be helpful. 2late4u

jkeaton
What engine? How many miles?
Camper
This error represent the following: P0740 Torque Converter Clutch Circuit MalfunctionThe engine and transmission are actually connected by a fluid coupling mechanism inside of the torque converter which is what multiplies the torque until the speeds equalize and create a "stall" speed where the difference in actual engine RPM and transmission input RPM is around 90% efficient. Torque converter clutch (TCC) solenoids commanded by the Powertrain control module/Engine control module (PCM/ECM) or the Transmission control module (TCM) to direct hydraulic fluid and engage the torque converter clutch to create a solid coupling and increase efficiency. The transmission control module has detected a fault with the circuit that operates the torque converter clutch solenoid. Causes of this DTC may include: Wiring harness to transmission damaged, loose connection, open or shorted circuit Torque converter clutch (TCC) solenoid Transmission control module (TCM) jkeaton

jkeaton
Best to take it to a shop for a diagnosis.
OhareFred
Changing the fluid isn’t going to fix an open solenoid error. You have to replace the solenoid . I wouldn’t have a clue how it’s done, I would go to a trans shop or a dealer. jkeaton
kicky
thank you very much for the reply. I already have selenoid at home. I'm trying to replace it myself through the weekend

kicky
today I've changed the selenoid. I'm still not tested or the issue has been removed
kicky
The exchange of TCC selenoid did not help, the failure was repeated. Do not you know how to help?
jkeaton
You are too far above my knowledge. This stuff I leave to the professionals. 2late4u

5rebel9
I just found this old subject thread: I recently had this code show up on our '14 62te equipped DJ. I knew it was a torque converter going bad and had my friend seek {give his advice} and he said solenoid and fluid/filter change to see if it would fix. Was against my preference, but as the trans has to be removed for a torque converter {a rather pricey job}, we tried his way first....NO LUCK! So at my reasonable charges , had him pull out the trans and install a new torque converter for a total cost of $1,100. Then to finish things off, another $100 for rear upper control arms. There are plenty of youtube videos about this code and what to do. ALL working FINE now and not chewing off inner tread of rear tires Edited June 27, 2023 by 5rebel9 2late4u
