dhh3
Anyone have their battery fail within the first two years? Dead as a door nail this morning. I have it on my charger, but it doesn't seem to be taking a charge. Off to my Dealer tomorrow; either me driving or being towed in! May be the charging system. newrollo
the lead acid battery technology is over a century old. Mainly unchanged. Thankfully their not too expensive for a better one. Hope its not your charge system. I ran mine down one time when I left an inverter on plugged into the middle row 12v socket. That one is always hot. Jumped it and have had no problems with it since. dhh3
dhh3
I only have 11,500 miles; two years at the end of June. I'll take it to my friendly tire store and ask him to to check the charging system. If OK, I'll buy a battery from him. If charging system fails, off to the Dealer for Warranty work! jkeaton
OhareFred
My 09 RT battery lasted exactly 37000 miles and about 4 years. On the other hand, the battery in my wifes 04 Sebring lasted until last year and about 100 K miles. It was still good but I changed it anyway! Go figure. I used a battery from Auto Zone (Duralast) was about $150 USD but has a 6 year guarntee, bla bla bla. Its in front of the drivers tire, but not that bad to change. I agree with you, if its just the battery I wouldnt go to the dealer, but if its the charging system, take it to the dealer for sure. Good luck! dhh3
2late4u
my aunt had a crown vic and didnt hardly drive it because she wanted it to last a long time well after 1 1/2 yrs it wouldn't start so she had it towed into the dealership and they laughed and told her you only have 900 miles on it. you have to drive it enough to keep it charged up or it will go bad LOL after that she drove it more often. i dont think that is what happened here but like i said i never had much luck with the org battery.if you have advance auto stores up there go on retailmenot.com and click on advance auto coupons you will get one worth $40. off anything over $105. i always get the best one cost about $130. with the 40 off drops it down to less than 100 and the last one i put in my truck was from there and that was about 6yrs ago... dhh3
dhh3
I have a $20 savings coupon from Michel Tires Plus (friendly tire store)! on an Interstate Mega-Tron Plus battery. Never had an Interstate battery before, but it is my understanding that there are just a few battery factories producing all the different brands. The battery is taking a charge, but ever so slowly. Car will now start, but I'm not going anywhere until tomorrow! Made an online appointment for 11 AM Edited April 17, 2016 by dhh3
BrianS
Dave, I've had good luck with factory batteries.... '01 GCaravan lasted 7yrs!! '07 got me 6. Still not impossible for one to fail prematurely. dhh3
Neto
Since it's not taking a charge its gotta be the battery unless there is a loose electrical connection. Does your charger have a voltmeter? I think you can jump it off and let it run solely on the alternator. Don't turn it off til you get to the dealership because the battery will still be dead if the battery has truly failed. We used to disconnect the battery after a jump start to check for battery vs alternator at fault, but I've been told that you shouldn't do this with the newer electronic systems. What's the real scoop on this? Will it damage the electrical system to disconnect the battery while the car is running? (I assume that even if the battery is dead, running the car with a dead battery would still allow the battery to absorb the charge, even though it is not holding it. That is, disconnecting the battery may produce different results than just running a car with a dead one.) dhh3
dhh3
New battery installed. The tech removed the plastic tray, and spray painted the battery tray with rubberized undercoating. Hopefully, this will keep from having issues in the future. Animal Mother and 2late4u
