hockey_puck
Found this today. CTV WinnipegPublished Wednesday, April 20, 2016 Transport Canada has identified safety issues with four Fiat Chrysler Automobiles Canada models. Transport Canada conducted an investigation after receiving over 100 consumer complaints involving a failure of a power steering return hose. It found that the loss of power steering assist, along with the potential for a vehicle fire, was a serious safety issue. Transport Canada notified the manufacturer. It found power steering problems with Dodge Journey, Chrysler 200, Chrysler Sebring and Dodge Avenger models. The vehicle models affected include: • 2009-2016 Dodge Journey;• 2011-2013 Chrysler 200;• 2007-2010 Chrysler Sebring; and • 2007-2013 Dodge Avenger. "Canadians deserve to know that the cars they rely on to get to work and transport their families are safe. I reserve the option of forcing a recall if corrective measures are not applied in a satisfactory manner,” Marc Garneau, the minister of transport said in a statement. “Manufactures should know that we have high standards for Canadian vehicles, and we expect them to live up to these standards at all times." A final notice of the safety defect will be issued to owners of the vehicles after the minister makes a final determination and reviews feedback from Canadians with affected models. Transport Canada said it will continue to monitor the issue closely and will provide details as they become available. dhh3
bramfrank
The defect is well known to many owners - but a safety issue? Steering gets a bit heavier when rolling, but parking becomes a bear.Interesting that the government is now playing the shame game . . . . I hope that this was a last resort in the sense that they pushed FCA who (perhaps not incorrectly) have said it may be a defect, but that it doesn't warrant a recall per-se.Last I heard they switched PS fluid, because the problem was that the stuff would gel in very cold weather and pressure would build and pop the hose. I have not seen many complaints about this lately, which may also say something. dhh3

Hi bramfrank, There is a power steering return hose available for Dodge Journeys operating in regions where temperatures are -23 C (-10 F) and below. As always, please follow the specifications for fluids as indicated in your Owner's Manual. FCA Canada suggests that if customers are experiencing an issue with the power steering hose, to contact their FCA dealership for a diagnosis or can contact FCA Customer Care. I hope this information helps. Thanks, Kathleen Top Care Specialist FCA Canada jkeaton and dhh3

Mrmagoo
Mine came today. Have an appointment for tomorrow morning. In the letter they hint at being reimbursed if you had it repaired and had to pay for it. Seems mine cost me over $900.00 in Dec.2014 when it was -39 or so! Got my fingers crossed! dhh3

Mrmagoo
Hats off to FCA. I had the recall done July 6 and received a cheque today dated Aug. 4 for full reimbursement for the replacement of this hose and inline cooler I paid for in Dec. 2014. Well done! rolly
I called the dealer to set up an appointment, but was told they are waiting for parts. Not a huge concern with the high temps we are experiencing, unless hell freezes over! dhh3
