dhh3
I do have the 8.4, non Alpine Premium system. If these new radios are like the old MyGigs, then the function of EQ, Fade, and Balance is part of the HU and not the CanBus. The MyGigs had an internal 66w amp, 16.5 watts/channel. In my Nitro, I had an RBZ MyGig. I installed 2 amps: A 4 channel amp for the radio and a single channel bridgeable amp for the Sub: all Kicker products. I had previously installed the Kicker/Mopar upgrade speakers. The installer at Best Buy used the speaker level inputs for the amps. He cut the speakers wires after the connector. He ran the speaker level wire bundle to the amp for input. Than ran the outputs back up to the cut speaker wires. My Kicker 8" sub was a dual coil, so he used the front speaker level inputs to drive the 1/2 bridgeable amp for the Sub. Both Amps required Monster Cables directly connected to the battery. In my DJ, the underseat sub uses the speaker level inputs from the front speakers. After this connection, he cut all the speakers wires. He then used the 4 channel speaker level inputs to the Alpine Brick Amp, and the amp outputs back to the cut speaker wires. Using speaker level inputs tells me that the EQ, Balance and Fade are still part of the HU, and not the CanBus. I'm guessing here, though. Mrgixxer6
I wonder if deleting the alpine premium sales code from the vin would make it function as yours does... Problem with the alpine system is the crossover points and a noise cancelling mic. I hate it. Parts are on the way and my buddy and I will be installing this stuff and praying for a better sound lol. I'm a former IASCA world finalist and installer/fabricator from old circuit city days. My buddy worked for me at circuit city and is a Bestbuy Master Tech... I'll keep everyone updated on the progress. I really want to try to delete the sales code and see if it enables the speaker level outs. Guess I need to pull the unit. Get a wire harness and head to the dealer. I also have a friend that owns my dodge dealer so we can edit sales codes anytime for free dhh3
dhh3
I can tell you, that with the MyGigs, in the premium systems, the amp output was used as a pre-amp. That being said, all MyGigs were interchangeable; the only difference being whether it ran on a High or Low Speed CanBus. When you turned the radio on, it sent a signal to the amp to come on. Maybe these new radios run the same way. I never looked to see if all the pin locations in the harness were being used. But I do know that a MyGig with an external amp: as soon as you turned on the radio, it reduced the output to pre-amp levels, and turned on the amp. You may be able to cut the speaker wires going into your amp, and use them as speaker level inputs for your new amp. Awesome if it turns out that simple. Then, run the speaker wires from your new amp into the ones coming from your existing amp. If you have an extra wire, it may be the one running from the radio that turns on the amp. There was a member on the Nitro Forum who bought all the parts for the Premium System. He could never get it to work. His radio would not recognize the amp. Dodge told him that there was no way to add it. He added the Premium Sound Sales Code, and it still would not work. So, I'm not sure if deleting the Premium Sales Code is the way to proceed. So, it could be that part of the Premium System ran on the Can Bus, at least on the Nitro. Curious to see how you make out. What do you mean when you say: noise cancelling mic? Mrgixxer6
Well i decided to just order the correct adapter from PAC and not even mess with it. Im not worried about bass mid and treble with a sub level controller. A friend of mine that works at rockford fosgate told me about the noise cancelling mics... really not sure what they do as i've been out of it forever.. only reason i'm doing anything with this car is it sounds like complete crap! dhh3

jkeaton
My Mustang has the Mach 1000 sound system in it. You talk about some bass. mfeel, Mrgixxer6 and dhh3
Mrgixxer6
Installation is complete and WOW WHAT A DIFFERENCE!!! i definitely recommend doing this upgrade... after looking at at the subwoofer enclosure, it looks like you may be able to fit a 10" in there.. i may eventually try it, but the Kicker CompR 8" sounds AMAZING... I elected the Kicker KX800.5 5 channel amplifier.. its 50x4 RMS @ 4ohm and then 400x1 RMS @ 2ohm to the subwoofer. I still need to mess around with settings as with the PAC Adapter i apparently lost Fader when i expected to only lose the EQ settings... i also don't have my park assist beeps... I'll keep you updated as to my findings... RaptorsFan, dhh3 and jkeaton
dhh3
Where did you install the amp? mfeel
Mrgixxer6
Hey bro.. the amp is under the passenger seat where the OEM alpine amp was. Its obviously larger but fits under there perfectly.. i will upload a picture later today of it under there. We also ran 4 gauge to the amplifier directly from the battery. apparently its super easy on these cars so long as you don't have a manual... there is a giant rubber plug for the clutch pedal that we went through. I also figured out the other issue.. apparently there is a Fade disable on the amplifier that was turned on.. then it uses just the front input of the amp to power all 5 channels.. which wouldn't be an issue if you didn't want to fade... or want park assist. once that was turned back off, obviously fade and balance worked as intended and the park assist beeps resumed. Looking at the OEM enclosure it looks like you could modify it for a 10" sub. i may try this at some point, but i need to stay on the down low a bit with the spending on the car.. the wife is getting a little ticked.. I did have to modify the stock enclosure to fit even this 8" because of depth. it was easy enough to cut and reseal the enclosure. dhh3, mfeel and jkeaton

VGP3331
Anyone have a photo log or youtube video of how to just access the stock sub and amp? I've heard where the amp is located, but not the sub. And no pics of anything. I got the "premium sound package" and I'm not feeling the love from my subwoofer. I want to make sure: it exists, is connected, and it's cranked up! 2016 Dodge Journey Crossroad Plus
Outside Dog
I'm new, been wanting to do this since I learned the GT had capabilities. Seen another conversation that the gentleman said he didn't think it looked like a 10" could fit in the oem sub hole,.. but I figured it could, even with a saw zawl. kinda knew in the back of my head, I could, or someone could.ill prob go to Best buy to have it done by them. They'll do quicker, and prettier than I could. I like kicker and mtx. I've had my 2018 GT for two months. Stock sub and amp are weak. I want some more omph between my legs. I'm gonna go on best buy and see what there working with. Great post above! Hope you guys still have it and bumpin'
davidlb512
Found these photos of the 8" OEM sub, out of the box, with a measuring tape on it, that might give a little help with deciding what route someone might want to go with replacing their factory sub.
