Matt M
We have been getting an odor in the vehicle for quite some time now, over a year in fact. We asked the dealer to check the heating system to see if there were any leaks, but they found none. We have asked many people and read lots of suggestions online all dealing with leaks causing an interior smell. We decided to pull back the front carpet on the driver’s side as that seems to be where the smell is emanating from. Below the carpet and up the front covering the firewall is a foam-backed rubbery material which I assume is for sound deadening. We found that seems to be the source of the odor. Has anyone else experienced such a thing? This rubbery material goes right across the front of the vehicle and smells even on the passenger side when we pulled back the carpet there. I will be going to the dealer to see what they can do to correct this problem. There was no evidence of any leaks that we could see so we have no idea why this would start smelling. Any suggestions or information from others that have experienced similar problems would be helpful.
Dusty256
are you sure there are no water leaks , the area where that pad sits (slightly ) above and to left is a good source to leak . also the ac drain tube can plug . I assume you are trying to describe a musty smell which is from water getting in some where. also cabin air filter dhh3, jkeaton and 2late4u

Journey_SeXT
A neighbour of mine who had the 2010 Journey had to get rid of it due to his coolant leaking and then absorbed into that rubbery material. He claims there was nothing they could do to get rid of the smell. I hope your situation turns out better than my his. dhh3
Matt M
Just a follow up to my original post about the odor coming from the rubbery material below the carpets. After a long talk with the service manager and after he sat in the car for quite some time and understood the smell, they set an appointment to replace that material below the carper right across the front of the vehicle. The ordered the replacement and it took quite a while to arrive, but they replaced it and the smell is gone. The service manager at Windsor Chrysler was really helpful and I am happy that it's all corrected. It was an odd problem to have, but they took care of it. Thanks! jkeaton and 2late4u 1
twinx1649
I too am having the same odor coming from the dash silencer pad that covers the inside of the dash panel. It appears that the only way to replace this pad is to roll the instrument panel. It also appears the there is a leak path across the dash panel behind the dash silencer. twinx1649
Foul Interior Odor Finally Found. It is the dash silencer pad. I've owned this low miles 2014 Journey for a while and haven't been able to pinpoint the foul smell in the interior. I FINALLY removed the seats, carpeting, and center console and found it's the mastic/dash silencer. Since I wasn't going to roll the I.P. to remove the entire silencer, I ripped out everything I could get my hands on. I did replace it with Dynamat and jute as a replacement silencer. NO MORE STINK!!!
