Dannyb
I was told by a dealer that the 4.3 uconnect can not be upgraded to the 8.4. Is this true or are they being lazy?
jkeaton
There are numerous threads in this section describing this upgrade. Here's one. http://www.dodgejourneyforum.com/topic/6259-43s-to-84-uconnect-and-backup-camera-installed/ Edited June 23, 2016 by jkeaton dhh3
bramfrank
Dealers are not aware of much beyond what is in the service manual, and even then . . . . . . . . . .

bramfrank
Honestly? To begin with I believe that if you gave the project to the dealer he would screw it up AND he would be asking your for extra money. If you intended to come out of te comversion with a navigation radio especially his numbers would make no sense.A conversion would depend on what you have in place now - do you have Bluetooth? Do you have automatic air? Do you have SiriusXM? If you had all of these then a conversion is *relatively* painless, albeit expensive. You would need to change out the TGM (telematics gateway, or radio module if you want to be accurate) and the display screen as well as the entire centre stack (all the plastic from the center vents down to the console). In new parts that is an expensive change. Of you don't already have auto air you need to change the ambient light sensor and a wiring harness and if you don't have SiriusXM you need to change the vehicle's antenna and the wiring to it and the saes code for automatic air needs to be added to the vehicle.Once you did it you'd likely be driving along and ask yourself what else you could have spent all that money on and you'd be kicking yourself for having spent the money. If you could add in the OEM navigation for that money as well (and it can be done), and a backup camera as well. But if you are missing any of the underlying options I mentioned it starts getting messy quickly. If it was my vehicle I would wait and get these features with your next vehicle. In fact it is what I did; My '11 had no Bluetooth, No XM and manual air conditioning. My '1 had all three AND the 8.4 inch display. I added navigation and the backup camera, both of which were very painless to do myself (though the nav addition is also pretty expensive). I WILL say that the convenience of the integrated navigation system is pleasant to have. But on the '11, because it had no roof console, I was able to install a high end Garmin Navigator that had voice recognition and it looked as though it was factory installed and it as virtually invisible from outside the vehicle. jkeaton
