seanton
Hi everyone, my muffler needs to be replaced however after calling a few parts stores in town and searching online, it seems no one makes an OEM muffler for our journeys. My only option seems to be going to the dealer, and they only sell the entire assembly (for $800). Has anybody here had any luck replacing the muffler with an OEM? If I don't go OEM route can I just an aftermarket muffler (I want something quiet...)? Thanks, Seanton dhh3
jkeaton
Any muffler shop will be able to replace with an aftermarket muffler. You can use anything you want. Just a matter of matching approximate dimensions and inlet/outlet sizes. dhh3
dhh3
If the inside edge of the 4 cylinder muffler is like my 2 V6 mufflers, it is curved to fit around the spare tire; so, you may have trouble finding a quiet replacement because of the lack of space. The Dealer had to drop my mufflers to install my hitch, so there is not much room under there to work with.
seanton
So after another inspection turns out it's actually the resonator that needs replacing. Suggested fix is to replace it with a straight pipe so I guess that's what I'll do. dhh3
jkeaton
That will work. May be a bit louder, but that's ok. dhh3
dhh3
I removed my resonator. Slightly throatier noise outside; no noticeable noise inside.
PGRChaplain
Find an Independent Muffler Shop, not Midas, Monroe etc. Those guys will build anything at 1/2 the Price of Factory parts.
