Sketch187
Just picked up a 2016 R/T yesterday. So far I love it, but I'm wondering if I can run an external hard drive in it for the rear screen? I have a few TBs of movie and I wanna get another one just for movies for my kids. bramfrank
I seriously doubt it since the largest memory stick it can handle is 32 gigs.
Sketch187
I was thinking a media player would work since it would have the available codecs Edited September 11, 2016 by Sketch187
bramfrank
I do believe that the rear seat video system has a composite video and stereo audio inputs, so yes, but limited in resolution to 520 lines.
Sketch187
Ya it has the AV inputs, I was thinking a HD with a USB to AV cord might work. Wasn't sure if anyone else had any ideas.
bramfrank
You'll need a full media player, with a hard drive (either USB connected or internal). Some of these operate from 12VDC with an adapter. Get one of those and replace the adapter with a cigarette lighter cable, plug the analog outputs into the video system and play away . . . . . . But be aware that the lighter socket o the back of the console is live 24/7, while the one IN the console is switched and that's where you'd want to plug it in if you don't want to drain the battery. jkeaton
DaOsmo
I have a raspberry pi with libreelec connected in the center console. To that I've connected a 500gb drive, using my phone as remote control. I've ordered a signal booster planning adding a sun visor screen for the front passenger. Sketch187
I ordered a small portable media player off Amazon for $30 and hooked a 2tb hard drive to it. Works like a charm.
