Navigation Voice Turned Spanish After Update

Recommended Posts

So I updated my UCONNECT firmware today. Everything seems to work but the navigation is now speaking spanish. Has anyone else run into this and does anyone know how to fix this?

Version: 7.09

Filename: UCONNECT_8.4_NAFTA_GARMIN_7.09_MY13-16_JCJF.exe

I can't find a voice settings screen in the nav submenu. I only have Keyboard, Keyboard layout, and voice response under the nav settings.

I tried changing the display language to french and then back to English but I am now seeing a different problem. I can switch between Spanish and French and everything works fine with those 2 languages. But when I switch to English, the nav does not want to switch to English. Basically, I can switch the nav language between Spanish and French, but not English.

Here's a vid of me trying to switch languages:

I realize I may be doing something stupidly wrong here, but what is it?

Have you tried simply re-updating your system again?  Maybe something happened in the update that made the acutal english language file nonfunctional.  Just trying the same update again may be useful.  If you can obtain the same update from a different source, that may be good to do if the original file was somehow corrupted.  As always, I would try certainly unhooking the battery for about 30 mins to see how the system behaves after that.  Good luck.

Peace.

Is there a cure for this problem? My brother has the exact same problem after we recently updated the Nav with 7.09

Here is the issue...... if someone does get it corrected they forget about the forum they came to complain on so the answer is known.........

Hey Jack, Given your brother's situation, I kindly recommend giving our Uconnect customer care team a call at 1-855-792-4241 as they are in the best position to provide assistance with your concern.

Well, unfortunately, the phone number provided by DodgeCares wasn't all that helpful. The people at that number said they don't have anything to do with the Dodge Journey Nav system. They did however connect him with the people at a place called Dodge Uconnect who tried over the phone to help him out. They went through a few procedures, none of which worked. They ended up opening up a service ticket with the local dealer for him to try to get them to fix it. I think you know where that is headed. In the mean time, I am going to prepare to try a couple of other things to get it talking in English again.

Three different people just here with the same problem, obviously not a user mistake. Why not just uninstall /  install the earlier version again and wait until a fix comes out without this bug.

That is exactly what my brother and I were talking about doing last night. I am in the process of downloading the proper files right now.

I wonder whether the update file wasn't for a vehicle manufactured for spanish-speaking markets - this might well be a mistake uconnect would made posting the update files or perhaps in allocating the update file for your VIN.

The version of CTP17 I have for my 2014 works just fine in my vehicle if you'd like me to send a copy to you.

That might be worth a try bramfrank. I know your way of fixing the "cannot unlock maps" error brought the nav back from the dead. Thanks.

I just got back from my brothers. I can say we have total success. This was a very easy fix. I have no idea why the dealer couldn't do it other than maybe they don't have anybody that can think for themselves. The following is how I did the fix.

1. You are going to need the files for CTP13 and CTP17. The CTP17 file has to be a known good file that is in English. You have to have them on their own USB sticks and under the directory of GARMIN. So your directory structure on the usb stick will look something like this. E:/GARMIN/gupdate.gcd

2. Go to your vehicle and start it. Press and hold the drivers side "temp up", "temp down" and the "front defrost" buttons at the same time until the dealers menu appears. This will take a few seconds. Select the Garmin Recovery Update and when prompted insert the usb stick containing the CTP13 file. It will do the download itself and when it's done an error message will show for about 15 seconds and then the main screen will say "uploading software" or something similar. It will take about 5 minutes for this to finish and then there will be various info that tells you the Nav package is now at CTP13. If you want to check you will now find that the voice language is now set to "American English".

3. Repeat step 2 but us the usb stick that contains CTP17. When it finishes you will now have voice commands in English and also have the latest firmware for your Navigation.

Special thanks go to BramFrank for his insight and guidance to make this work.

Follow this link to get the CTP13 file.

I am sure if you ask nicely, somebody here will send you a good copy of the CTP17 file. I am not at liberty to share the one I have as it is not mine.

I can't guarantee this will work for everybody, but it worked flawlessly for me.

Any chance I can get a copy of that CTP?

I'm having problems getting the ctp13 onto a USB drive can anyone help it says it's a rar file

You'll need to get an extractor program to convert .rar to useable files.

Are you familiar with a .zip folder?

.rar is very similar to .zip

.rar is a  file-compression protocol  designed by a russian programmer (don't let that scare you, it's legit, and safe).  [.rar] is a bit more complex an encryption than .zip, and  takes more effort to decompress than .zip, which also makes it's contents unsearchable. is often the preferred encryption method for sending... let's just say... proprietary, 'but without permission', data over the internet. usually, textbooks for university students, bootleg software which people don't want to pay for, or in this case a firmware for a car that should be only available at the dealership.

You can download a trustworthy .rar converter from cnet, then use it to extract the contents of the .rar
