Jefferson Moreira
I have Jouney 2011 is overheating only when it is in high rotation, the thermostatic valve has been removed and replaced the water pump and it still keeps heating, the fan is normally turning on. Has anyone had this problem?
2late4u
you should never remove the thermostat from the engine as that doesn't solve any problems that only is a temporary fix that will cause problems down the road.possible problems is partially clog radiator, bad thermostat, fan not clicking on at the correct time, bad radiator hoses collapsing .you need to get it to a qualified mechanic before you overheat it and ruin your engine....sometimes the cheap comes out the expensive.......... jkeaton
Dusty256
do you have the proper 50/50 mix and not just water.. i would suspect a blocked radiator jkeaton
Armando G
If you've done all the 'basic' steps (and more from what you wrote), then it's time to take it in. Although I did get a bad water pump once. I had another vehicle that did the same, I replaced a few things, and it kept over heating. It finally over heated one time too many (while I was testing it), that the engine finally gave out. Cost was $3500 to fix, problem was a $29 sensor that I did not know about...and wasn't even written about on any forum. I just didn't want to pay the $85 diagnoses charge...never again. 2late4u

Armando G
I changed the big one in the engine compartment...the engine :-) Every sensor was switched when I replaced that one. Sorry, it was about 6 years ago and it was done at the (BMW) shop...don't remember.

It would be interesting to find out what the problem was? Curious on what causes and the fix as well. We will be working on a 2009 Dodge Journey right after we finished installing new shocks, smittybilt bumper and LED lights on the current Jeep project. The current owner of the Journey mentioned about the slight overheating issue. He had the water pump changed already. Jefferson Moreira
after changing the temperature sensor, we found the resistance of the problem fan and also the reservoir cap that was opening the safety valve before the pressure. klp087
I have a 2013 Dodge Journey, which is right now sitting at dealership where I purchased this vehicle. The engine block is warped which I am being told was due to my heater hose. Was driving the car when smelled something funny, looked down and temp gauge went from middle to hot, I pulled over as soon as able, saw heater hose blown at elbow. Am now being told they will not honor the warranty due to the hose causing the problem, and since hose not under warranty will not fix. The vehicle has a 5 year 100,000 warranty. Car is only 4 years old, still under warranty. Anyone else have this problem. And would a blown heater hose cause head gasket to blow and ultimately warp the block? jkeaton
Yes it can cause that. You will need to fight it’s out with the dealer. Go up the chain of command if you are not getting the results you expect from the local dealer. OhareFred and 2late4u 1

klp087
I have already been dragged through the coals on this. Chyrsler Fiat according to Lake Norman Dodge Chrysler in Cornelius NC, has deemed the warranty null and void. This is through Chyrsler Power Train Center. Amazing, heartbreaking, hardship, I have been through so many emotions. I have in writing that "when a non-covered part (Hose) causes the failure of a covered part (Engine) is NO LONGER covered." WOW!!!!!!! What causes a heater hose to blow in a well maintained vehicle. Perhaps the problem with debri getting into cylinder head??? Had to have transmission on this vehicle rebuilt one and half years into ownership (May 7, 2015). On July 20, 2015, complained of hearing noise in engine upon start, nothing found at that time. And on October 7, 2016 had to have Throttle body replaced. Any advice on "Lemon Law". On December 12, 2017, Tried to work with Chris Brown at dealership on labor and was told that was up to Chrysler. Which he is now advising he never said. As God is my witness he is a liar. I sent e-mail to owner, Jack Salzman on December 13, 2017, which was marked read on that date, begging him to work with me on this. Finally on December 20, 2017, I got a quote for $5,380.00, off of the original quote of $6,428.33, wow a savings of $1,048.33. On a vehicle that is only 4 years old, under 5 year 100,000.00 warranty, and a vehicle that I am still making payments on and cannot drive. Merry Christmas!! Don't think you can help at this point, just wanted the public to know what I have been through. Karen Peltier
Eduardo831
I’m confused so your heater hose failed and I’m assuming you kept driving your vehicle causing it to overheat and warp the block? I’m not being mean but this goes for anybody as soon as your car is overheating pull off and turn off your car. It’s not your fault that the part prematurely failed, but since you continued to drive it overheating it the manufacturer sees this as your fault. 2late4u, jkeaton and OhareFred 1
